Fix: Creative Audigy Intermittent Crackling / Static

Just wanted to post a fix to a problem i was having incase it end up helping someone else, or myself if i forget how i did it.

Problem: Experiencing substantial crackling that comes and goes whilst playing games with my Creative Audigy 2 on my multi-core 64bit Win7 system. I had installed Daniel K's drivers but the crackling continued.

The fix for me (which Daniel's drivers may also be apart of) was to set my default playback device to SPDIF Out. I have no idea why this fixed my problem, as i A) dont use SPDIF and B) haven't even hooked SPDIF up to any output source on my card. However, sure enough, i set SPDIF as my default output and managed to play an entire scenario of L4D2 with no problems.

Hope this helps someone out someday

also, i stumbled onto this fix via a reply by renthor in this thread google found for me. Thank you Renthor!!!

joined here to thank you for this (well now it's a necro post)
stumbling around the net i didn't find a proper fix until i saw this post.
both my Audigy and Audigy 2 ZS had this issue in Win8
and just now as soon as i set SPDIF as default on the static instantly disappeared.

thanks HEAPS 🙂
