I'm guessing they're copper pins. If you can find a copper pin the same dimensions why not. You might have a hard time keeping it placed in there though, may as well just RMA it ASAP.

Larry, so what does QFT stand for? If unprintable, I'll just assume you agreed with me.

Dont all drives have a pin missing. I am possitive that it is the way it is made. I am assuming you ment nec drive, I can pull one of mine to check but am sure they dont have all 40 pins!

Is it not working???

There is supposed to be a missing pin, it's in the middle (pin 19). All ATA/ATAPI drives are like that.

heh... all devices have at least one missing, even floppies. Now the floppies entire bottom row of pins is almost gone (only a few there IIRC)

Correction - MOST devices have one pin missing. I've encountered a few over the years that, when I tried to plug in the keyed cable, it wouldn't go in because the device had all of its pins. But that is fairly rare.

Hi, Pin 20 has been omitted for years on some drives as it is sometimes used as a key. That is, it is omitted and the corresponding pin location in the cable is plugged so you can't plug the cable in wrong. There are also a couple of other unused pins that are sometimes omitted. If it works don't worry. Hope this helps, Jim
