So my Cybershot DSC-HX5 took a tumble today and now the LCD display is mostly busted. you can see about 2/3 the screen, it flickers and has a nice impact mark where the LCD freak out. Can i replace the screen? A better question would be where can i find a replacement LCD to order?

I found a discarded Canon S80, with a busted screen, but otherwise in perfect working condition. Had a replacement screen shipped for $25 from a Chinese company. Followed an online tutorial to replace the screen. It took 30 minutes and some sweat, but everything worked out without a hitch. I now have a beautiful spare camera 🙂

If you're not as adventurous as the fellows above who repaired it themselves. You might also just check with Sony to see how much the repair would cost. I don't think it'll be that bad, maybe ~100 bucks, and you get the benefit of having a professional perform the repair so you can rest easy. It also doesn't hurt to find out the official cost to repair to find out just how much money you'd save by self-repairing.

well i went ahead and ordered a screen for $25 off ebay. just finished replacing it. I couldnt find any guides, so i had to wing it. came apart with little trouble, swapped the screens, put it all back together in about 40 minutes.

new screen seems nice, but now when i turn it on, all i get is an error saying the camera is over heating. 🙁

im headed to a meeting and will check it again when i get back. may just be my hands gripping it for 40 minutes triggered the heat sensor? dunno.

advice?

nevermind; success!

it didt all fit together quite right, took it all apart noticed the old LCD had a protector on it, put it onthe new one, put it back together and everything fit much better this time. powered it on and its working like a champ!

😀
