Fix a bad DVD-RW burn? HOW!?!?!?

Tried to burn a DVD-RW and things went bad......

Now when I put the DVD-RW in to erase it, my system hangs. Is this -RW toast? How can I erase it if it hangs the system?

the only writing software i havi installed is nero 6 ultra, i removed dvd x copy, which is the program that tanked 2 discs.

i did an erase with nero on one disc that finished burning but wasn't readable and now wnen the disc is inserted into the drive, all programs report the dvd drive as not able to be initalized.

full erase? INCD erase? and format?

perhaps a shredder program? or govmt secure erase by Norton?

Got any links? I've tried Nero full erase on one and now the disk is un-useable. I've tried DVD Info Pro's erase as well to no avail.

AFAIK, these types of programs won't work on optical RW media. Especially if the disc can not be recognized by the system.

I'd hate to say it might be toast, those things are expensive! But maybe it's toast... Do other -RW disks cause you trouble, or just this one? Do you happen to know anyone else with a DVD-RW that can try to erase the disk?

doesn't that ruin them? 😕

not rw's...thats what i meant to say when i said 'cdr' ... cant leave out there all day. but ive had good success in the summer around the 20-30 min mark. besides, if the disk is unreadable by programs already, you got nothing to loose.

Yea, but if the disk is salvageable by another program, it won't be if i burn it up in sunlight. I guess it can't hurt.
