fitting linux box into network

I want to learn more about linux. I already have 3 computer running 2k pro,and a domain controller running 2000 server. I use a linksys cable/dsl router. Can you guys give me some ideas for fitting linux into my exsiting netwok. I have an extra athlon 1800xp system I'm interested in putting mandrake or redhat on .
Any help would be appreciated.

When you say "fit in" to your LAN, what exactly do you mean?

For filesharing purposes, grab Samba (most distros come with it). It will let you do fully compatible windows filesharing and it will let you linux box show up in the network neighborhood with whatever machine name you give it. Also you can either give tell it to DHCP or statically assign it an IP address.

I know a Samba server can process windows domain logons but I'm not sure if a linux samba box can logon to a windows domain. That would be something to check out in a Samba FAQ or Howto from http://www.samba.org.

Other than that what else are you interested in doing with the Linux box?
