My friend does it all the time and says it's cheaper than pellets and stuff, cause a $3 bag of dogfood lasts him over a year and an $8 bottle of pellets lasts a month. His tank gets kinda oily and cloudy from the fats in the dogfood I guess, but his fish are BIG and seem to be healty. What do you think?
What kind of fish does he have? if they're Oscars, Catfish, African Chiclids, or something else along those lines, then I guess it would be OK; these fish are big enough to swallow small pellets like that & digest them. Otherwise I would think that the dogfood would be too big & hard for the fish to eat; most of it would just sink into the tank and rot - and ruin the water in the process. Either way, if he's going to feed them food like that, he'd better have a
good filter on there. And I would clean the tank manually - drain some of the water and replace it - on a regular basis, too. According to everything I read or heard, you're supposed to do this anyway, but with what he's feeding them it would be even more important. Nate
