Fish populations once thought to be inexhaustible now face the prospect of extinction if policy changes are not made soon...

Well, I really doubt your gonna stop all the little Asian countries from long net drifting, etc...etc...

So what do you do when you catch them? You can't even stop the poachers from cutting down trees or killing elephants in protected area's that are pretty small. How would you suggest you stop them in a VAST ocean like the pacific?

Do you just take the nets and dump the fish/fins when you catch them? Or do you load em all up on your boat and fire 50 cal bullets at it too sink it? Hmmm, or do you just kill everyone on board and make an example out of them? Hmmmmmmmmmm....

It's a nice store and nice idea but I really don't see it happening. Maybe when the fish get down to 3-5% it won't be worth the fuel to keep roaming the oceans for the last remaining stock?

Oh well... I wonder when the ultra right wingers will start posting about how it's really NOT happening. Who's first?

Probably you are right about the 3-5% thingi. Fishing will stop when fish go extinct.

We fish in excess because we hate ourselves. We project this hate on to other species because we are too proud to face our own self hate. Everyone knows this.

Seems to me that the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora needs to work in concert with the armed forces of all countries involved to arrest the people and relieve the people of their boats. Of course if the fisherman will be catching all sorts of fish, so unless they have killed the endangered fish, I don't see how it is provable that they caught the endangered fish on purpose, unless there is some type of "immediate release" law put into place. There is no easy solution obviously.
