Just wait, soon they'll move to China, assuming they haven't already. Then you'll start hearing not about lead paint (I don't think plastic blocks are painted), but toxic additives instead.
So they already executed their Food & Drug administration guy for what amounts to gross negligence. And an article in Scientific American says that melamine may have been added
intentionally to pet food as a way of fooling a chemical test, so as to show a higher protein content. The test is an old one (from the 1800's if memory serves me) that involves dissolving the food in an acid; the amount of nitrogen produced indicates how much protein was present. Melamine apparently gives off nitrogen as well, and so it gives the appearance of being protein.
Now the lead paint problem.
If they want to maintain or earn some level of respect in the US (and possibly world) market, they'd best live up to our standards. Maybe it'll wind up costing more, and America will have to learn that sometimes it's not such a great idea to constantly buy the absolute cheapest thing possible, with quality as only a low priority.
