Youve got to be kidding me.... How can these manufacturers STILL not know the dangers of using lead based paint??? This kind of news really ticks me off.

The Chinese probably did it on purpose to try and kill us. I also cannot believe that in this day and age people do not realize that lead based paint is bad.

OK, they say massive recall and there are no products since May on the recall list. Obviously hasn't been updated yet...but you'd think they would have.

Commerce regulation at China sucks: their exported food is full of poison too.

I guess it's hard to resist when the company says they can make a $30 toy for $.75. I hope Fisher Price is fined big time.

I don't think we need that kind of help. TV is doing just fine.

So are inspections getting better or is the quality of children's toys just going to teh sh!tter.. Way too many recalls. I'll just stick fo megablocks, playmobil and Lego in the future.

It sucks seeing things like this. My little girl, and I'm sure most kids, always chew/bite on toys and those little teeth can easily scrape off paint.

I wondered about the lead paint and why companies still use it.
Found out that its because its cheaper than the acrylic type paints that would have to be used to get the same results.

I wonder if I should have my blood tested for lead.
I handled lead solder daily in working with electronics for over 20 years.

China does prosecute the offenders rather harshly.
One of them that got caught before was executed.

I remember last month or so they had kerosene in the eyes that keep looking at you when you turn the clear ball, and the Thomas the Train engine guys had lead paint on them as well, from China.

Any site with pictures of the toys? I know what my kids toys look like, but not necessarily their name.

The safety part of Mattel's website is blitzed.

I think Fisher Price is more to blame than China. They should be supplying them with the proper materials, or at least making sure that the proper materials are being used, either before or after production and definitely before putting them on store shelves in the U.S.

Just wait, soon they'll move to China, assuming they haven't already. Then you'll start hearing not about lead paint (I don't think plastic blocks are painted), but toxic additives instead.

So they already executed their Food & Drug administration guy for what amounts to gross negligence. And an article in Scientific American says that melamine may have been added intentionally to pet food as a way of fooling a chemical test, so as to show a higher protein content. The test is an old one (from the 1800's if memory serves me) that involves dissolving the food in an acid; the amount of nitrogen produced indicates how much protein was present. Melamine apparently gives off nitrogen as well, and so it gives the appearance of being protein.
Now the lead paint problem.

If they want to maintain or earn some level of respect in the US (and possibly world) market, they'd best live up to our standards. Maybe it'll wind up costing more, and America will have to learn that sometimes it's not such a great idea to constantly buy the absolute cheapest thing possible, with quality as only a low priority.
