Do you take it?

If so, what brand do you like?

Any concerns about mercury buildup?

Fish lower on the food chain have less heavy metal than those above. Eat prey, not predators.

I use to take it to see if I could lower my triglycerides, but it didn't. I think fish oil is just a fish tail.

I take Lumens I get off Amazon. It has the highest EPA & DHA I have found. Helps greatly with inflammation in my fingers and joints, when I forget my hands ache by the time I get home from work.

Depends. Some of the claims of what fish oil can do are not backed up by science and others are. A lot of people take it for supposed cardiac benefits, lowering cholesterol, helping reduce heart attacks, etc and that doesn't look too real. But I take it for joint pain and inflammation. Too much football in HS and college left me with bad knees and too much golf leaves me with sore wrists and elbows and fish oil does indeed help to reduce those symptoms If you're taking it for certain specific things it does have some real world benefits. For other things it's snake oil.

Kirkland. I really like that brand for OTC stuff like Fish Oil and allergy aids. It's sourced from sardines and anchovy, like lxskklr said above with concerns about mercury and other heavy metals its better to use the prey rather than the predator.

Interesting. I'll give it a try. I'd prefer to just EAT fresh fish all of the time, but my wife said I can only do that if I build a separate house and live in it to keep the fish away from her.

I'd love to eat more fresh fish, but dang seafood is expensive these days. Especially the good stuff. Best combo of taste, texture and nice fat content for the Omega acids would be like wild salmon or Pacific Halibut and they're both $30 a pound and up here on the east coast.

You could also eat a lot of turmeric (I usually add some to plain rice for yellowing and a little flavor). I'm not sure how comparable they are, but tumeric is great for inflammation as well, and I'd imagine cheaper/easier to use.

I take it to lower my triglycerides, and it does. Generally buy from Pipingrock.com when they have BOGO.

Best brand They are all the same. Read the back. The more vitaminz x y z is the better one IMO. Also, the most expensive ones are the best ones. Again most of them are the same. That is why the vitamin business is making billions every year because people are stupid.

I used to take fish oil pills. It gave me uncontrollable gas. I am talking wake the dog out of a sound sleep farts. The doc said I should freeze the pills so go into my system more. I told her that was not the end I was having the gas problems on. She said I should take Flax seed oil. Ever since I started doing that the dog sleeps much better now.

I started taking Krill oil recently. I don't notice much, but I hate eating fish, so I figure it's a good way to balance that out.

I was being blood tested for my triglycerides. I took a fish oil pill faithfully once a day for three months. My blood test showed no change.

I have read that you should watch out which brand you use. They say the oil is rancid inside the pill and you won't know it.

You need to take a lot more than one pill. I take 4 grams of Omega 3 acid ethyl esters. 2 in the morning and 2 at night. It's basically what you get from fish oil. It's' the only thing that got my triglycerides down from over 500 to something reasonable in the 200 range.

No don't do that. The quality of fish oil is variable and 4 grams is a lot. You need a product that's guaranteed to be uniform.

Get a prescription for Lovaza. It's generic now. There are also competitors you should check out - Vascepa and Epanova. Not sure if there are generic versions for those.

Let me know what you find. Vascepa might be a better choice for me but I need a good argument to bring to my doctor.

Leave you with these funny vids

and finally

Although humorous, the guy has some points to make. Still fish oil, if taken correctly and not rancid, does provide a number of health benefits shown by several double blind peer review studies.

https://nccih.nih.gov/health/omega3/introduction.htm

This is one among many out there. Out of all the "supplements" one can take it is probably the best along with garlic.
