Is a real pain in the ass.

I'm trying to setup a firewire network with a Laptop on XP and a desktop with 2k. XP seems happy with it, but 2k only wants to install drivers thinking the laptop is a device. The XP setup disk for firewire networking won't run on 2k, only on every single other MS OS. If anyone can link to or post how to get the 2k (PCI firewire card) firewire to work, thanks. And no, I don' need/want suggestions on other networking ideas, I just want to get the firwire cables to work.

I believe only ME and XP support firewire networking, you won't be able to do it on 2k without third party software such as FireNet.

Couldn't get it to work. I ran Firenet, and had both computers happy that the connection was up and running but couldn't seem to find eachother on the network.

Hey! Exactly my situation! Well, almost. I just want to be able to transfer files (networking or just seeing as another device). However, the ADD NEW HARDWARE wizard pops up and I can't find the drivers for "Microsoft 1394 NIC". My 4 pin FW port is built in.

Pain in the butt!

Ding, ding. Thats the winner with my problem too. The bottom line I think is that 2k just can't do firewire network. I searched MS website to try and find an update or patch to accomodate it but had no luck.

Buddy, earlier you said you already tried FireNet, just to be clear this is a third party product not from Microsoft. You downloaded that and tried it?
