LOL because of youtube and some of the videos replayed on there I wonder how many new viewers they have gotter, or gotten back from people who stoped watching the shows but say a re-cap on there and decided to watch again.

If it wasnt for youtube, I wouldnt be watching south park again myself. I stopped, but after seeing the return of Chef, Im hooked all over again, and there are other clips that have made me watch other shows I would never of found or liked had I not seen them on youtube.

I'd love to see how they justify the price tag on this lawsuit. Not like lost primetime viewers cost them $1billion.

For the same reason people don't sue homeless people.

On one hand, the law protects service providers from liability for the actions of their users. But on the other hand, Viacom has a point that YouTube exists almost entirely for the purpose of sharing copyright infringing video clips.

But it's mostly short clips, and Viacom should recognize that as free advertising. It's just the full/half episodes that they should care about.

The quality is also hideous.

Agreed. I don't think a 2 minute South Park or Daily Show clip is going to take away viewership from Comedy Central. It's much more likely to make people want to watch the show.

And without copyrighted content, YouTube would mostly consist of a lot of emo vlogging.

Ah... according to Wikipedia Viacom is launching a free video service this summer. That would explain why they want all of their stuff off of YouTube.

Edit: I see ThePresence already mentioned that.

Edit2: Actually it was ElFenix with a confusing quote-fix.

This actually took a lot longer than I thought.

If you or I were hosting copyrighted videos in the same manner on our own sites we would have been shut down within a month.

Viacom has become a very lage cry baby, they need to get their head out of their ass and realise that they are getting free publicity. Even if they are launching their own service you really think people are going to go there? Every company that has launched it's own video server sucks, it's filled with flash crap, ALOT of ads and is VERY slow, unlike youtube that has maybe 1 or 2 ads per page and the rest is pure videos.

I still hate viacom for killing TechTV =(

:p Who cares about clips. I just found an entire series (first few episodes) from the UK on it posted in segments. It only just started on a premium channel here, but I was going to wait for it to get onto 'basicer' cable.
