? (1) Petra'sTech Water Cooling Setup Guide

I was wondering if anyone had experience with these items. I hear nothing but good of the D-Tek, The Liang DDC-2, and Yate Loon fans.

My case is a Antec Super Lanboy, and I was wondering what I would be able to fit inside. I would prefer to fit the whole setup within the case, but am unsure how space would be.

My setup is a BFGNF4U with a 3500+ Newcastle, and a 7800GT. I've got 2 hard drives(both SATA), and one optical drive (IDE) atm.

I am considering buying some of the non-conductive pre-mixed solutions, as I've seen a few people saying they've had spills, and the hardware was undamaged.

At any rate, I hope to get some input here. I nearly bought a danger den set, which I think would have been a poor purchase, now that I've done further research.

Your getting the petratech elite kit. Its a VERY GOOD kit. The DDC-2 makes a high pitch whinng noise tho. You'll hear it if your near ~2-3feet. Think of sitting in the back of an airplane, but much much softer. :p

Make sure you use the neoprene it comes with to dampen that noise, otherwise it will be very noticible.

Swiftech QP series radiator = ranked right below the first place winner, Thermochill. So yea its a good radiator. BTW thermochill's cost 2x more.

Make sure you follow the 1:10 dilution on the coolant additives. Personally i use less for increase performance. But if you want the pretty blue color, and not a faded blue color, make sure you follow dilutions exactly.

Theres better options on GPU if you intend to keep your 7900GT for a while. Consult my sticky.

Consult my sticky on coolants. You got everything you need. Follow what i say about it. MAKE SURE THE WATER IS MARKED DISTILLED

I extremely urge you to read my sticky. Link is in profile. Your going to need to clean your new equiptment. YES i know its new, and YES you still have to clean it.

Gotta disagree with you on this

I hate whining noises and as long as the pump(true for any pump) is not sitting on metal part of the case or resting against a panel..I really doubt you will hear anything

What I found was were I placed my pump part of it touched a side panel and this was an issue for vibration noise

I would suggest a very simple fix for vibration noise and to lift this pump up as it does get very warm and some believe this may lead to pump failure

get the small size felt pads ..the one that look a little larger than a dime...I stacked 2 on top of each other and placed at all four corners on the pump....this gives alittle room for air movement and keeps vibration noise away IMHO

you will have extra to place against the pump if it touches any other metal lthat can transmit noise or vibrations

My rad is inside my P180 and my pump rests against my PA160 so I have some air blowing on the pump(the bottom still gets warm)

wow nice price from Petra as well

Cant disagree with you more. Thats why i stated to use the neoprene it came with.

And u have a nice p180 with sound absorbing sides.

Take a Lian Li or any case without sound absorbing material, and that thing whines.

the DDC2 is louder then the D5. That is a definite given tho. Its a lot more powerful however.

Also neal, my pumps never get warm. :\ I only had this problem if my fans werent spinning.

well I respectfully disagree..I own both a D5 and a DDC2 w/Petra top and the D5 had to be set to number 3 to avoid whine and noise(even in my P180)....my DDC2 makes no noise(my DDC2 was bought from a hardforum member and was from a batch a year old(never used)..so newer ones may have more noise issues

I had the DDC2 set on the neoprene but I like the felt pads better but this is personal preference

My sense the pump is warm may not equal yours ..just like noise issues....

my point on the DDC2 is that these pumps can get warm if you do not allow some air around them..especially with a modified top(at least from numerous reports at XS)..I do not think my pump gets hot/warm in an inappropriate way..I think it is normal

All pumps should be placed on something like neoprene to avoid transferring vibration noise through the metal cases..this makes a huge difference

2 DDC-2 + Tops :p

Hehe... they whine.... i cant hear them from 2+ feet away, but definitely a extremely high pitch whine.

And your D5, comment. Thats VERY VERY Wierd. I had dual D5's and i honestly can say, at max setting, they were near dead silent. There so quiet that i decided to put them in my NAS instead of the 3rd DDC-2 i have. My poor QX b4 i sold her used 3 DDC-2 in 2 independant loops. I sold her, and striped the gear. Cousin couldnt take the water. :p

But listening to them both running. Remember i have 2 different systems with both pumps.

D5 on the left, DDC's on the right

They definitely make more noise then the D5.

Noise is very subjective....but many at XS complain about the D5 noise...alot must have to do with pump placement ....

I'm running two DDC+ pumps and can't hear them at all. When I tested them my room went from 26 to 30db. Not audible with my ears.

Maybe the dog can hear them though.

maybe im a dog then :p

Cuz i can hear the high pitch whines they make if i lay in front of my computers.

Its a given fact tho, the DDC <-- regular is the quiest then comes the D5 then the
DDC-2 at full settings. DDC-2 downvolted via fan control can be the quiestest however.

Ummm.... i really need to find that thread where tests were done on a DB meter.
