First USB 2.0 Controllers Shipping Now!

Adaptec today announced the shipment of USB2connect, one of the industry's first USB 2.0 host bus adapters (HBA).
At a maximum speed of 480 Mbps, USB 2.0 technology is forty times faster than USB 1.1 and also maintains forward and backward compatibility with USB 1.1. That means that consumers save time and money by purchasing Adaptec's USB 2.0 card today for use with current USB 1.1 peripherals, such as digital cameras, and avoid having to purchase an upgrade for the new, high-speed USB 2.0 products that are arriving on the market.
Adaptec's new USB 2.0 card is powered by NEC's USB 2.0 host controller technology.

Windows XP will not have built in support out of the box. It's almost a guarantee that support will be added at a later point.

well if they dont it would suck 🙁

Good news, but useless at this point. No peripherals yet. Who really wants usb 2.0 when firewire is available. I'd read somewhere that the diff. b/w firewire and usb is that usb devices are dumb, meaning they require more cpu control. that way Intel sells more cpus. Firewire allows for intelligent peripherals and require less cpu load. Forgot where I'd read this, correct me if I'm wrong.

Didn't a company named Orange (?) start shipping a week or two ago? Anyway, thats awesome, and probably my next upgrade.
