First Timer Trying Linux

I've just built a new gaming rig, and have bumped my old machine down to storage/movie rig, which leaves another older rig sitting collecting dust.

I figured I'd take a shot at installing Linux on it and maybe setting it up as a mail/web server or router/firewall.

Any advice for which version of Linux would be a good start or any other general advice?

The system it will be going on is an Intel P4 2Ghz, 1GB ram, 80GB IDE HDD. Thanks in advance.

Like I told the last guy:

Just go to Distrowatch, check out the RANKINGS on the right side, and start with #1 and work your way down until you find one you like. -----> http://distrowatch.com/

It's best to just try them out yourself rather then what others say. Everyone has their own preferences, so it's best to just play with them, and then you'll know 100% which you like.
