The tasks that I'll most likely perform are web surfing, online movie watching, and gaming... definitely gaming. I spend around 6-7 hours on my free time at weekends and an hour or two during weekdays. The reason why I'm turning over to PC gaming is that it can run games consoles cannot. The Witcher 2 in particular is one of the reasons why I think PC is so amazing. I plan to play that game in high-max settings.

I'm looking to spend under $950-1000 but if possible 800. Planning to save some on a gift for my gf.

I'll mainly buy my parts from NewEgg.ca but there's any other site that sells similars components for a lower price please suggest.

My brand preference is whatever's hot on the market right now for gaming but if I had to choose it would be nVidia and Intel.

I do not intend on using any of my current parts because they're simply useless at this point and cannot even run an MMO properly.

Yes, I am looking to overclock my system if that's what if takes to make my game perform good.
I plan to build this before summer school.

**I hope the info given wasn't too vague.

Never EVER buy from bestbuy unless it is with a gift card, i wouldnt spend any real money there on computer parts though. Try NCIX or Newegg.ca

You have incompatible ram. You need DDR3 ram, not DDR2.
Also, I would try to get at least 4GB of ram.

Unless there are features on the Pro mobo you need, you can save some money with the non-Pro.

btw, did you already have an OS?

See if you can find prices on a Samsung F3 1TB drive - should only be a few bucks more than the WD Black 500GB.

and if you can afford 4gb of ram, I would do it.

check out these mobo's specs:

they have most of the options the asus does and are much much cheaper. Gigabyte and MSI are very reputable brands

Wow thanks. You just saved me 40 Canadian dollars! I chose the MSI Z68MA-ED55 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard. Is that better? Is everything else compatible with eachother now? I'm planning to go cheaper with the video card CD/DVD drive if there's anything available.

NP. that asus board was very pricey
Not sure this is my first gaming PC. My monitor resolution is 1680x1050 if that answers your question LOL.

yes that and knowing you were getting a new LCD help alot
then HD 6950 1GB

this.

also, you really should get a SATA instead of an IDE DVD burner, like the one I posted earlier
