Whoa, I got a thought. Dell 2001FP from ebay? Hmmm, warranty on a monitor is not transferrable like a system. You may want to re-think that.

bamacre: see this post. what's the final concensus on dell lcd warranty transfers?

Well, I'd listen to what RossMan says, even though it appears others have been lucky getting service even though they purchased from a 3rd party. I've sold over 400 dell systems on ebay, and transfer of ownership is easy, as they have a service tag. But monitors do not. Even with the original "order number," you're going to need the name, address, and phone number associated with that order number.

Personally, I'd wait until dell has a hot deal on the 2001fp, rather than buying one off ebay. I think the bottom line is, it's risky, even though the risk is somewhat unknown. It's an awesome monitor (I have a 2001fp as well), but expensive, and I think the investment of being assured of the warranty is worthwhile.

Edit:
I sense a hot deal on the 2001fp coming soon :D

That's helpful feedback, thanks. Regardless, I have a tough time waiting for deals (no idea when it will be) and $416 for the monitor was too good to pass up. I spoke to a dell rep and confirmed exactly what you said - can't transfer the warranty but as long as I have name, address, phone # and order #, there should be able to do warranty work on it with no problem. I see no problem with that.

Edit: saw the link in your sig - in for $50
