First timer build - All comments welcome

Greetings.
As I can't reach for the ~1000 dollars build, I create a thread.

Checklist:
1 Main use will be gaming/browsing. Frequently played games include skyrim/borderlands/console emulators.

2 I'm trying to aim for a little under a 650 euro budget. (about 850 dollars). That's actually closer than I thought to a thousand.

3 I'm french, so I would prefer to buy from france. If this bothers you, when I checked yesterday my parts could be shipped to me by amazon.co.uk.

4 As indicated, I can pass by
amazon.co.uk. I would prefer passing by
amazon.fr, but it does have a tendency to try and rip you off. Other french sites include
rueducommerce.fr/home/index.htm and
materiel.net/

5 I do not have a brand preference.

6 I currently have a laptop, so I can't reuse any parts

7 I don't know how, and won't overclock my system.

8 I have absolutely no idea what resolution I'll be using, but I never felt bothered by smaller than average resolution. However, if it somehow affects performance, please tell me.

9 I'd prefer building before the end of August.

I suppose I'll also need a new windows license.

Using logical Increments, I currently am considering
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Brein/saved/2ahk this. (if this link doesn't work, the contents are the first line from the "very good" tier at logical increments.
This amount to 605 euros using amazon.co.uk, but I'm missing a keyboard and an OS.

I'd also like to ask if I should consider buying an OEM license or if that's impossible.
As well, I have never assembled a computer in my life, so will I need cables and/or accessories to hold it all together?
Finally, will 4 Go RAM be enough? Would and SSD have an impact on more than launching and loading times?

Thank you in advance.

Oh, and feel free to point english errors you might spot, I'm still learning.

1. Welcome to the forums! 😀
2. Aren't these prices from the U.S?
3. Are there Microcenters in France? Your case is from MC.
4. That RAM seems overpriced (From the U.S), and is 1.65V, too high of a voltage for your CPU. The i3 will reduce the RAM's clock speed in order to keep it in an acceptable voltage, making it perform slower. It's better to go for 1.5V RAM.
4 1/2. IMO it's better to have 8 GB of RAM, as newer games tend to use up more memory. It'll also futureproof your rig.
5. Lower resolution= More performance. Ex.: On a 1080p screen, it'll take a GTX 760 or a HD 7950 to max out Crysis. On a 900p screen, It'll only take a GTX 650 Ti Boost or a HD 7790.
6. I would pick a FX-6350 instead of the i3. I almost always prefer AMD over Intel when under $180.
7. I don't think a SSD will be possible on your budget..
8. Everything needed to build the rig should be included with the individual components.
9. Your English is amazing 😛
10. An OEM license is fine, and usually cheaper.

1 Thanks.
2 I don't think so? I mean yes, the pcpartpicker is us based, but picking them in europe amount to 605€. (not counting the OS & keyboard.)
3 Not that I'm aware of. Their site seems to indiquate their stores to be us based.
4 Sorry about that, but rig = gaming computer right?
5 1600 x 900 should be fine then?
6 Really? I'll have to check that then. It's just that several persons seemed to indiquate that dual core was enough. And pcpartspicker don't display it with compatibility filter on. Sooo... Does that mean I should change the motherboard too?

Prices from Europe and U.S are different, no? You shouldn't use pcpartpicker as it's U.S based, and will give you prices from stores there. 1600x900 is a fine resolution IMO, but some people may say differently. Also, the FX-6350 is a AM3+ socket CPU, meaning that you'll have to switch it with a AM3+ socket mobo. Don't worry, these motherboards are usually cheaper than the one you picked 😀

PS: Rig=gaming PC 😛

Do you actually own a display yet?

That looks about right to me. I'd perhaps spend ~€10 more and get the 4570. €10 for a 400MHz speed bump doesn't seem like a bad deal... 🙂

I'd also see if I couldn't find a good deal somewhere on a HD7850/70. The extra performance will be welcome at 1080p. But of course it depends on what monitor you'll be using.

A new monitor will kinda stretch the budget, but I think I'll look into it.
Currently I'm looking at something like

Intel Core i5-4430 @ Aria PC £137.99
ASRock B85M-HDS @ amazon £58.29
Corsair XMS3 8GB (1 x 8GB) @ amazon £45.00
Seagate 1TB @ Aria PC £45.59
HD 7850 1Gb @ amazon £124.99
Corsair 300R @ amazon £60.06
Some basic keyboard @ 20 - 40 €
and OEM license 70 - 90 €

Total 640 - 680 € not counting the monitor.
But it seems do-able.

So I switched over to amazon.de to have the same electrical outlet.
I'm kinda paranoid, so I prefer double checking out of fear before going to sleep. It comes to
http://de.pcpartpicker.com/p/1rEom
but is http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0028RC9NE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_7?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF
compatible?

Finally, I won't need a ventilator, will I?

As in, will it work? Yes, so long as the PSU is ATX compatible it will work in all systems. If I remember correctly, France uses standard European sugo sockets? The worst that can happen is that you'll need a different cable from the wall to PSU. I'd also have to say that the 360W is perhaps a bit too small, the 430W is about right. If you want a slightly higher wattage (or cheaper) PSU, you could look at Corsairs CX series. They're not glamorous, but they will get the job done.

As for the fan, I'd recommend at least a 120mm front mounted one. It might not be required but I'd feel more comfortable with one. But I think there is some included with the case. Corsair is usually generous when it comes to fans...

Yeah, the inlet to the PSU is a standard IEC C14, so you can pick up a cable from a local shop. Hell, you probably have a bunch laying around from previous electronics.

Your build looks OK. 430W will limit future GPU upgrades, but it's more than sufficient for a 7850.

However, a monitor from 2003 is a little worrisome. Do you know what the model is or some general specs?

It's a compaq P9622A.
It'll have to make do for a start, as I think I'll delay changing the monitor a bit.
Do you know if there is any brand I should avoid while looking for one?

OK, so that looks like a 17" 1280x1024 monitor. That's obviously not the greatest monitor in the world, but it was a lot better than what I was expecting.

As for new monitors, there's no real brand that I would avoid, but I would definitely avoid buying the cheapest monitor from any brand. Those are lowest of the low end TN panels with horrible contrast and viewing angles. Personally, I would set my sights on an IPS if you can afford it.

I have yet another question. Won't I need a network card if I want to connect to wireless networks?

Ethernet is ALWAYS preferred. Wifi is only necessary if ethernet is impossible or if you plan on travelling with your system a lot (and even then...ethernet is preferred).

If you have to have wifi, you can get an 802.11n USB dongle for $10-$20 (U.S.)
