First Time WIN XP user! Screwed up...

I just got a lappy with WInXP home edition.

I played a game on it with batteries and it cut off after it ran out of juice. After that, i could not shut down anymore! It hangs at the shut down screen..

How do i repair some currupted files or reinstall the XP or restore system files or...?


Sorry for the novice questions... first time user!

PS: it hibernated after the battery was low but i kept on continue to start the comp with little juice cos i wanted to drain the power from the battery!

You can do a Scandisk to make sure that your drive is okay. If that doesn't work, just pop in the CD and boot from the CD. There will be an option to repair a Windows installation. Give that a shot. Hope this helps.

thnks, i just did a Defrag and it did not have problems.

I'll do a scandisk and see!

There's also the part about putting the disc in like I mentioned above. There is also this command that you can use at the RUN prompt: sfc/scannow. That command checks your system files to make sure that they're intact
