Hey guys, I'm in a bit of dilemma here and I need your wisdom.

I have an idea for a website that I think will be very popular if it was developed right. I do not have any web design experience at all. So, I'm trying to learn how to use Dreamweaver with tutorials from Lynda.com.

I'm considering hiring a web designer but I have a concern. That concern is how do I know that if the person hired to build the website won't steal my idea and build himself a site based on my idea?

How do most people go about it if they want to build a website based on an idea that hasn't been seen before? Do they just build it themselves or put up some kind of contract with the web designer?

Thanks in advance. :)

Hire a web designer as an independent contractor, and specify that you own the rights to any work product that he creates for you.

However, keep in mind that your worst case scenario is unlikely. First, there is a slim chance that he will steal your idea in the first place. Chances are, it's not worth stealing. Second, it's highly unlikely that if does steal it that he'll do anything with it worth suing over. Third, even if he does create a site based on your idea and is successful, it's unlikely that it will be worth your time and investment to sue him, even if you have an ironclad contract.

People hire web designers all the time. You'll be fine.

What would be a good way to find a web designer? I would like to find someone local that I can meet in person.
