first time video capture, need advice

Ok I want to record some of the World Cup matches on my computer so I can watch them during the day instead of 4 AM... But I'm not sure if I know exactly what to do. I have a gainward video card with a S-video in plug, and a coaxial cable-TV output jack in my room next to my computer. My plan is to hook up my cable box (cable-TV converter) supplied by my cable company to the wall jack, then somehow convert the coaxial output into a s-video output and digital audio. Does this look like the right piece of hardware for this: Radio Shack Signal Converter So hopefully with this converter I plug in a s-video to my video card but I just don't know how the sound gets incorporated? Naturally, it seems I have to record the audio separately via my sound card but how do I do this so it is perfectly synchronized with the video signal? Do the video capture programs take care of that? And speaking of the software, would you recommend a good cheap or freeware program to do this for me? My hope is that I can have my computer automatically start recording when the game starts and then playback this clip later either by connecting my s-video/audio out to my tv or burning the clip onto a cd as a VCD. Please any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

forget that radio shack stuff, for the same price you can get a winfast tv card at newegg.com or frys b and m for arround 50 bucks.
it can use coaxial cable-TV hook up and it even schedule recording times, so you do not have to get up in the middle of the night to reccord.

endcode to mpeg (vcd svcd etc)if you want to.
goto vcdhelp.com if you need a free encoder program.
use nero to burn to cd.
I saw it for 7.50 (or something like that) in hot deals.

either way, make sure you had allot of hard drive space.

hope that helps.

Yeah you convinced me, I like that winfast tv2000xp card. The only thing is I really want to get it by tomorrow. Hope some retailers around me might carry it. Thanks ! 😎
