You could read the motherboard manual (located near the last few pages I believe).

What's the BIOS version?

If your current BIOS version is 1004 and up I think you can use ASUS Update to flash the BIOS in Windows.

Been awhile since I updated my K8V-D via floppy so I can't say specifics but did you type in the correct BIOS filename into the flash program? There's also another way, I think during bootup you can hit shift+F5 or something to jump into a BIOS update menu in DOS.

EDIT: ASUS EZ Flash (ALT+F2) after POST

and it's the right BIOS? I dunno I keep thinking you either DL'd the wrong BIOS or typed it in wrong.

I'll assume you typed it in right.

So I'll take another guess

There's 3 different K8V's

1) K8V
2) K8V SE Deluxe
3) K8V Deluxe

It may be possible that if you attempt to use a BIOS for the K8V SE Deluxe on a K8V Deluxe that might've caused the error message but that's my guess.

EDIT: For some reason the USA ASUS site's K8V SE Deluxe download link gets redirected to the K8V Deluxe download page. On the global site each of the ASUS boards(above) has their own specific download page with different BIOS versions(latest) available.

K8V = 1002
K8V Deluxe = 1006
K8V SE Deluxe = 1001

ASUS Update's BIOS download menu isn't right, it has different BIOS versions available from one ftp server to another.

-----------

On a related note. My K8V-D originally came with the 1003 BIOS but I had to use a floppy drive to flash it with a specific flash utility to version 1004. Instructions on ASUS's site mentioned that I couldn't/shouldn't use any other flash program i.e. EZ Flash or ASUS Update(windows) to flash it from 1003 to 1004. Since then I was able to update my BIOS from 1004 onward with ASUS Update.

Webpage says scaleable HyperTransport and different Gigabit Ethernet (i.e. Marvell & 3Com). Only thing I can assume from the scaleable HT would be that the K8V-D can change HT bus frequency from 800MHz and lower(600, 400, etc.) while the K8VSE-D can't but it's only my guess.

1003+ would be for the K8V Deluxe.

Dunno, maybe there are different voltage adjustment options or another for why it's better on OC'ing. Since the K8VSE-D didn't come out too long ago I suspect that the K8VSE-D BIOS, the one that comes with the motherboard, is pretty much up to date.
