first time system builder - what tools/extras/adapters useful?

hi all,

about to put together my first system. dual opteron on Tyan K8WRE, in a Lian Li v2100 case. I've got all the main parts, but I'm sure I'm going to find I need a bunch of tools/ connectors/ adapters/ leads/ what have you. all the easily overlooked stuff.

any recommendations?
molex y splitters?
fan y splitters?
molex tools?
what have I missed.

I can't count how many cheap toolkits I've received as gifts ('cause they all know me as the computer guy, and all of the kits are collecting dust). Frankly my only tool is the all mightly screw driver. You tend to accumulate all of those spare parts with the more builds you do. If you've purchased all the parts seperately, they should include everything you might need.

Just my thoughts, I could just be fortunate based on the quality of the parts I buy.

a got a little kit like that some time ago and i use a few things from it.

the screwdriver of course, the lil tweezer type thing can be handy getting mobo screws in/out of tight places.

a good small flashlight is helpful as well, like one of the smaller mag lites.


as for the splitters, i wouldn't worry about them until you need them. does your psu come with a reasonable amount of molexs? alot of the video cards include 4 pin splitters.

those kits are usually pretty low quality, but they still work. I have one myself. As for adapters and stuff, you can pick up some here at this shop that i go to. Their prices are decent but their service is really good.
