First time setting up a wireless network for shared internet use

My brother just got a laptop and I will be getting one soon which will bring the numbers of computers in our house to:

3 desktops
3 laptops

We currently have a cable modem, ethernet switch, and ethernet PCI cards. I'd like to ditch the wired stuff and go completely wireless. We rarely move files from one computer to another, this will primarily be set up to share a cable internet connection.

I took a look around newegg for the networking equipment. Are these all the parts that I'll need?

Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband RouterLinksys WRT54GL WirelessG Broadband Router
Linksys Wireless-G USB Adapter (for desktops)

I also have a PocketPC phone with WiFi capability, will I be able to connect to the network and share files between the phone and PC and use the internet too?

Lately I've been working on my car, will I get sufficient range and signal if the car is directly beneath my room (where the router will be)?

EDIT: It looks like Frys has a deal on Wireless-N equipment from Airlink. When I looked on newegg, the Linksys router above seems to be a nobrainer from 1000+ reviews and a 5/5 star average rating. However the Airlink seems to be cheaper and be using the newer Wireless-N tech. Will this Airlink Wireless-N setup do the same thing (sharing internet and files) as the Linksys?

Airlink AWLL6080 USB Wireless-N adapter

The AR680W router will work just like the Linksys WRT54GL. The only difference is that the AR680W supports wireless N. If you don't to a lot of big file transferring between computers on the network, there is no need to go to wireless N because the protocol is still not finalized. Plus the Wireless N adapters are more expensive than the b/g adapter. I don't know about file sharing between the PocketPC phone.

The Airlink Wireless-N set is pretty cheap at Fry's right now, it's $30 for the router and $20 for each USB adapter compared to $50 for the Linksys router and each USB adapter.

Once the N protocol is finalized, will draft N equipment be updated via firmware, or will it have to be entirely new hardware?

That is pretty cheap. You should go with wireless N then. There is no Fry's where I live so I don't know about the deals

That's the multi-billion dollars question. I doubt they will offer firmware update because the manufactures can make a lot more money by making you buy new equipments.
