first time overclocker needs help.

I have an Acer P3 450. I looked in the manual and it states that the mother board only supports upto 450. Can I still overclock this or do I need to get a new board? Also what are the risks of running CPU at a higher rate then what mother board will support?
 
We need to know the make & model of the motherboard ,this is printed on it.

Ref cpu support ,it would most likely support upto 600MHz at least with an bios update ,once we know your board then we'll know for certain (unless it's a PC Chips board!).
BTW when overclocking its the cpu that is at greater risk rather than the m/brd.And the risk is relevant to how overclocked the cpu is & how well cooled it is.
 
Hmm ,I'm not familar with your m/brd ,a bit if an oddball to me!😱.

Anyway looks like your PC would support a PIII 600 ,Aspire 6100 various specs

BTW ,the PIII 's have there multipler locked so you can't alter that.Also it doesn't look like you m/bd has any extar FSB speeds ,so its a no goer for you as far as overclocking goes 🙁
