well its my first time overclocking and i read all guides to it but it doesnt seem to work for me...i thought id start by lowering the multiplier on my barton 2800+ the multiplier is set at 12.5 by default so in the bios i set it to 11, on restart it didnt boot (moniter didnt display anything) so i had to reset the CMOS when i had back to normal i decided to start with the FSB i could only reach 179 (176 stable) which is pretty bad seeing as i wanted to reach at least 200fsb so i could run my ram at ddr400. i know i cant get very far with the multiplier set at 12.5 any help? can desktop bartons let you change the multiplier? i would like to reach 200fsb if possible, any help?

NO

That's asking alot, 2500 MHZ which even some mobiles can't do and they are hand picked scremers.

I think your 179 MHZ is already kick ass @ 2250Mhz, that's a good overclock for desktop bartons. Your only hopr to to raise voltage to 1.75 or so and see how high you can get on the FSB. But you better have good cooling and keep you eye on temps.

* Keep in mind OCing is not really "safe" according AMD or good for longeivty of hardware. Assume so at your own risk.

i have a volcano 12, so do you think if i bumped the voltages up i might get to 200? would it hold up?

No problem *I* woul feel comfortable even delivering 1.8Volts to processor. Try 1.75 and see if you can hit 200FSB.

Do you understand all the bios settings? Being such a noob I would think you'd have more Qs there?

depends how well it scales with voltage

if it's letting you hit 2.4ghz with under 1.7v then maybe you'll hit 2.5+ghz, otherwise you'll be hit hard with temp limits and possible damage to the chip without better cooling with crazy vcores :)
i got a 2400+ to 2.53ghz once but that was on watercooling and with much more voltage, and the t-bred b has fewer transistors
think like 2.2 and 2.3 are pretty comon overclocks for many on air even with unlocked chips (some get 2.4 and up, but lately it's been the unlocked mobile bartons stealing the show)

that's a shame about the mem speed tho, no options for ratios/dividers in the bios ?
what chipset is in that motherboard ?

its a kt400 chipset. so ill try 1.75 then, heres a question what exactly does the voltage do? deliver more power to the cpu?

well, that and it allows the gates/transistors to switch on/off quicker every second thus giving you the clockspeed.
but it seems 1.75v or so is about the limit before you start killing your .13u athlon xp's, so usually don't go higher unless your willing to go out and buy a new cpu the next week or month or whatever when one of the millions of transistors manages to finally "burn out".

good luck

hmmmm seems fsb 185 on 1.75v seems to be the go, doesnt seem to want to boot at any higher speeds, but im very happy at 2318mhz thanks guyz!

Soulkeeper's mr safe which is smart. I would have been happy with your previous OC too. But what ever makes you happy... just remember your using more power and risking you hardware a bit more for those xtra 75 Mhz.
