I need a new monitor, and I've been looking around. I'm not happy with the build/image quality of new CRT monitors, especially those at 19". I'm keen on buying an LCD, but I still think they're over-priced. (Would waiting a year be worth it?)

I typically use my PC for surfing, but I play FPS games frequently. I understand I would need an LCD with a fast response time. A 17" or 18" display is what I'm looking for.

There are so many different kinds and brands, and I have no idea what to look for. I'm looking for advice on features and even particular models.

Cheers.

for that budget, the best 19" lcd monitor i can recommend you is the BenQ FP931 Silver 19" LCD Monitor. you can find that one here. this one has a 16ms response time.

as for a 17" lcd, i'd have to recommend you this. its the SAMSUNG 172X-Silver 17" LCD Monitor and it has a fast 12ms response time.

for gaming, 16ms and below are very good. even quality 25ms panels like samsungs new 243T is great for games and ghosting is barely visible at all.

I've researched many different models and (frustratingly) each review offers a different conclusion. Obviously, the best way to judge a monitor is in person, but the stores in my area don't always offer the models I'm interested in. I have no choice but to rely on other's opinions.

I want a display with a very fast response time, 16ms or less. I need crystal clear text. Colour is important, but not a primary factor. I would prefer a display with a clean design, and definitely no speakers.

I'm still unsure of the benefits of DVI over analog.

I have dual Dell 1901FPs and they are fantastic, especially for photos/graphics. I believe they have a 25ms response time though. (I think the 20" Dell lcd is 16ms) I dont do any gaming on them, but DVD movies are brilliant on them, and you cant beat Dell's service (Ive had good luck anyway...we had one of these monitors arrive at our office with dead pixels, and they overnighted us a new one before we disconnected the bad one!) I frequently peruse the dell online outlet store. I am considering getting a third 15" lcd to mount on the wall, and they are commonly under $300 there.

Anyone know who actually manufactures Dell lcds? I have heard its Samsung, but not from what I would call a reliable source.
