First time installing an internal HD

Hi everyone

Apologies for the very basic level of this question!

It's my first time installing an internal HD.

I bought a Samsung hd204ui and I have connected it properly etc to the motherboard. i am running windows XP on an old Dell computer from 2007 (around 2ghz processor, 4gb ram etc)

I have switched on my computer and everything works fine. However, when i go to 'my computer' - the drive does not appear.

The drive is being recognised by the system, and it appears under the 'disk drive' section of the utility manager tool thingy. But how do i get it to be usable?

again sorry for what must be a very basic and obvious question!
thanks in advance

Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management, right click on the graphic representing the volume of your new disk, then select initialize.
