aight, here's the thing. i got pulled over this morning for not wearing my seat-belt. for those who reside in new york, there's a probationary driving program called DRP (driver's responsibility program). simply put, i have 4 points on my license right now. what am i supposed to do? that's the first offence for seatbelt for me. should i call a lawyer?

btw, that state trooper was a d!ckwad, but then again, i hardly meet any cop who isn't.

EDIT:

WTF i was asking two questions. just answer them, GODAMNIT!! guys, the seatbelt law is one of the rediculous ones.

Wait a sec, you have 4 points on your license or you have 4 points left on your license? In any case take the class (oh, and stop speeding). :)

Dude, if you have to meet an officer of the law, 99% of the time, it means you were breaking the law. Pay your ticket and.wear your seat-belt.

Lollerskates.

Don't hate on cops. Most aren't assholes unless you give them a reason to be an asshole.

if you're gonna cry, should have done so like a little schoolgirl when you were talking to the officer.

Don't make me laugh.

Seatbelt violations are victimless crimes. Unless you're holding someone else at gunpoint forcing them to ride around in your car and not wear a seatbelt, you're not putting anyone in danger but yourself. What's going to happen? Honestly? Are you going to get thrown through the windshield, fly across the intersection, your lifeless corpse slam into the little old lady trying to cross the street, and kill her?

Really.

Seatbelt laws are a joke. I'm not infringing upon someone else's rights by not wearing my seatbelt so I don't see what the problem is.

lol you got 4 points for not wearing a seatbelt?? Thats pretty rough. How did he see that you didnt have it on while you were driving? Normally they give it to you if they pull you over for speeding and they see you dont have it on.

Actually you are. When you fly through your windshield and end up on life support that you can't afford, everyone else has to pay for it. Dumbass.

So is the state going to force fat people to exercise and outlaw motorcycles?

Honestly, I think it's ridiculous that seatbelt violations are primary offenses. Police (even the ones dedicated to traffic law) have much more important things to be pulling people over for. I rarely wear my seatbelt and I would be fine with getting a ticket if I got pulled over for something else, but being pulled over specifically for not wearing a seatbelt is a waste.

As a libertarian in heart, I disagree with "nanny-state," self-protection laws in principle (seat-belts, motorcycle helmets, etc,) but I can see the valid points of the other side of the argument.

But all that is irrelevant, because seat-belt laws *do* exist. If you disagree with them, you campaign to get them revoked, you don't ignore them and then cry when you get busted. Our laws can be typically be changed within the confines of those laws.

What does managing the Dewy Decimal System have to do with a nanny-state? :p ;)

Libertarian here too.
