You're fvcked. Puppies...bah...who needs them?

We have a lab mix we adopted from the local pound when she was 4 months old. They are bundles of energy with a very short attention span.

Don't worry though. This phase only lasts about 2-3 years then they start to calm down. Ours is actually pretty good now.

BTW-Labs love to dig! Hope you weren't too fond of your yard!

aww that dog is so cute! my dad has a lab that is now probably 12 years old or so. when it was a puppy, that thing would be SO energetic, then it would sleep all of a sudden and be out for an hour or so.

the only thing i would recommend is to go outside with the dog every few hours and be with the dog while it goes to the bathroom. this way it will learn where the door is so that it will go there when it has to go to the bathroom. we just got a new puppy in the summer and it took a few months, but now when she has to use the potty she walks right to the back door.

also, what we are doing with this puppy is, when we go to sleep at night we put it in a little cage to sleep. t hen in the morning we let her out. we are only doing this for now, so that eventually it will just go in the cage area to sleep on its own, without us having to even close the cage. at first she barked and whined for about 10 minutes when we went to sleep, but now she pretty much walks in there on her own and keeps quiet after we go to sleep.

however, you may not want to even do anything like that. we are doing that because with our dog that passed this past summer, he would get into stuff in the middle of the night. we didn't want that happening again.

Oh yeah, be prepared for a few years of biting/digging/destroying! Ours is just about 2 years old, and he is still full of enegry 24/7, but he doesn't destroy things as much any more. Ours was really bad in the beginning, but consistent punishment and reward works wonders!

get a decent book, even the dummies books are good. dogs grow through the maturing stages very quickly, you only get one chance at somethings.. well the easy way atleast. don't slack. and well get it spayed or neutered asap. keep them in puppy stage more or less.

should live inside with family. dogs are pack animals. banishment = metal screwup
