I'm buying a case for the first time. Everyone seems to love the SX830, but aren't they
like 4 feet tall? I don't plan on doing any overclocking, so do I need such a beast?

What would be the best case for someone like me?

Heat sources:
-Athlon 1.1 GHz
-GeForce2 MX Video
-IBM DeskStar HD
-DVD-ROM
-Plextor 12x10x32 CD-RW

The only external bays I really *need* to have are for the DVD and CDR... and I only
need one external 3.5".

Thanks!

The 830s are great, but if you don't need all the advanced features and fan mounts, then I'd recommend the Enlight 7237. Its alot smaller, and about 20-30 cheaper.

they aren't that bad, you want a case for room and convience, not just cooling. i had an enlight 7237 which was awesome, but it seemed cramped after a while and i moved onto a fong kai 320 which worked out a lot better for me. you may want to look up the 7237 for a good case that doesn't take much room and is in the budget, however with your config it seems a higher end tower would be better suited. look up the fong kai 603 and 320s, there's plenty of comparisons with that and the antec sx830 and sx1030s.

The Antec SX830 is just under 2 feet tall. It's like 22 inches tall I think. Mine is on the way so I will find out soon :) I just built a system with the Enlight 7237, nice case. Has intake fan, and place for exhuast fan. I hear good things about the InWin S500 too.

After doing a little looking... I like the Fong Kai cases.
The 320 is $50 more than the 603... is it worth the extra $50?
Them seem very similar!

One more question: Does anyone know the weight on these cases?

Looks like weight is gonna be the difference - or should it be?

It's the FK-603 vs. the SX830... I challenge you to convince me one way or the other!

I promise this is my final showdown... :)

I would think either one would work out fine for you....Your the one that's gonna be looking at it all the time so just get the one that looks best to you!!! I wouldn't worry about weight unless you plan on lugging it around :)

HI
I just got my sx840 yesterday. It is the same case as the sx830 but the power supply is 400 watts instead of 300 watts in the sx830.
I am a first time builder and looked at probably every case mentioned on this board. I chose the sx840 for several reasons. Since I am not over clocking now, that doesn't mean I won't in the future. The Antec case gives me room and cooling options in the future if I need them. Being able to add 2 more fans and or being able to change the fans easily is a plus for me. The size of the case is a plus for me too. It should be able to take any mb on the market and still give me room to stick my big hands inside the case and work on things easily. As for the power supply, I prefer the 400 watt unit as it hopefully will be working easier under most loads. Also, it has power to spare if I choose to add more fans or load the case with more drives or other items. As for the weight,, the case weighs in around 31 pounds. After poking around in it for the past few hours,, the metal is thick and the case is very solidly constructed. And, so far, no sharp edges and no cuts on my hands!!! There are better cases out there. Chenbro and Addtronics names come to mind.
For overall value, the Antec sx84 was a good comptomise foe me.
Thanks

WTG Goalkeepr. You may not be overclocking now but after reading all the posts and hype here you won't be able to resist. The sx830 is so easy to work in- no stupid chassis rails to get in the way. It is very roomy and cool too.
