First time building rig

Hey.
This is my first time fully building a comp my self, I've helped build comps befor and have messed around fixing messed up comps so basicly I know how to put one together and I need help with what I should buy. I think I would like to go with a DFI Lanparty MoBo, AMD 939skt CPU, I heard G.Skill RAM is good, and Im not sure about the graphics card cause Im not sure of the type of MoBo Im getting I dont know if it would be worth going with a SLI Mobo cause my budget isnt that big so maybe just go with something like DFI Lanparty nF4 ULTRA-D. Im open to all suggestions. my budget is about $1000 or less. thanks all

here's my recommendations:

CPU: Opteron 165 - $328
motherboard: DFI UT NF4 board - $116
GPU: eVGA 7800gt - $265
RAM: 1gb stick of g.skill value ($69 - CAS 3) or extreme ($100 - CAS 2)
hard drive: Western Digital SE16 250gb - $96
psu: fortron 450 w - $50
case: i don't know if you already have one

without a case, this comes to $924, before shipping (all prices from newegg). if you don't have a case, spend the money on that. if you do have one, get a 2nd gig of ram

CPU: AMD 64 X2 3800+
Motherboard:eVGA mobo that comes with the 7800gt combo. You don't need all the tweaking settings for your first rig.
GPU: 7800gt (N518)
Ram:1 GB stick of G.Skill DDR500 ram (in case you want to overclock, most beginners want to)...
Hard Drive: Ehh, anything really, Preferably anything on sale. Hitachi 250 GB possibly.
PSU: Enermax Liberty 500w or Antec NeoHE 500w (whichever is cheaper)
Case: Cooler Master Centurion 5 or Antec SLK3000B.

I like that setup alimoalem Ill probabley go with something like that but I might wanna go with SLI so I can upgrade more in the future but Im not sure if I can afford it with my budget

glad to be able to help. i actually recommended the wrong ram...for like $1 or $2 more you can get CAS 2.5 ram (you won't see the difference but you'll at least know you have "better" ram 😛).

as to your want for SLI, you could get an ASUS or DFI board for about $50 more or so but keep in mind that the 7900gt is just around the corner along with ATI's new offerings, so it would be smarter to consider SLIing with a 7900gt or CrossFiring with a newer ATI card than with the 7800GT. it's just a thought. and if you do get just the board for now, you should stay within your $1000 budget

When I first wanted a new rig I wanted to SLI in the future, I ended up just getting the Ultra-d and I am very happy with it. I personally do not think SLI is worth it for a beginner especially with that buget. Just get the Ultra-d and 7800gt or 7900 when it comes out.
