ok, i,m new to all this , so bare with my iggnorance. i,m trying to put

together my first p.c. it comprises of the following:

motherboard: Abit N18 SLI
processor: pentium D 805 2.66GHz , 533Mhz FSB
PSU : OCZ GAME X STREAM 600W
memory: ocz ddr2 512 ram x 2
hard-drive: maxtor 120GB ata/133 hdd

i must mention i have installed hard-ware before in previous p.cs but never

built one from scratch. so, i get to point where i want to start up the

p.c. to see iff it gets past "post" but what i get is a beep, followed three

beeps in quick sucession. i took not of the l.e.d reading the mother-board gives

out and it read "8.7.". looking in the manual, it suggests check CPU core

voltage" .i have the 20 pin power connecter going in the 24 pin mother board

connector. an additional 2x2 pin (called CPU 1) is also plug in the mobo at the

rear-side. lastly part of my dilemma might be these additional usb headers (usb

power x2 , ground x2 , usb 2 +, usb2- , usb3+ , usb3- ),coming from the front

panel.not sure where they go. Any help would be much appreciated. thank-

you.

Did you go into the bios to make sure everything is set up properly. That's where you can check your CPU core voltage.

hi, thanks for your reply. it does let me get that far. when i turn on the p.c. the three fans are spinning, followed by the bleep and three quick bleeps then it switches it self off . this last about 10 secs. i,ve tried pressing "del" ( that,s what the manual asks me to do) but nothing different there.

It sounds like a RAM problem. Take them out and reinsert both. Start with the slot closest to the processor. Make sure you hear them click. Don't be afraid to use some force they're pretty tough little sticks.

advancemenes for me :) after plugging in the additional usb port headers, i am

able to turn on p.c. and it continually runs. doesn,t turn on the monitor as

yet,but doesn,t switch it self off either. now , what i,m not understanding from

the manual is it,s "post code definition"the first,

1. (OA) 1.disableps/2 mouse interface (optional)

2. auto detect ports for keyboard & mouse followed by a port & interface swap

(optional)

3. reset keyboard for winbond 977 series super I/O chips

after holding the power on/off button to switch , the led reading on the monitor

reads (9.9.) indicating "complete power off sequence". i,ll think i,ll leave a post

at the mobo's tech site , to see what they come up with . any soulutions

appreciated
