I'm in the process of building my first computer and here is what I got so far.

2) AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3000BPBOX - Retail
3) CORSAIR ValueSelect 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Unbuffered System Memory Model VS512MB400 - Retail
4) ATI RADEON 9800PRO 128M Radeon 9800PRO 128MB DDR AGP 4X/8X Video Card - Retail
5) ASPIRE X-Infinity ATXB6KLW-AL/350 Silver Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
350W Power Supply - Retail
6) NEC Silver IDE DVD Burner Model ND-3540A - OEM
7) Maxtor 200GB ultra ATA/133

I have a dell 2005fpw monitor, external CD-RW, and an external 200GB HD

What I am trying to achieve is an all around computer that I can use for basic gaming, websurfing, watching dvds and crap along those lines.

Everything comes out to about $650 shipped.

What do you guys thinks....feedback greatly appreciated.

up the ram to 1gig and the vid to 6600gt and get an fsp fortron or an xclio 450 for around $50. is the maxtor from one of the weekly specials from the stores? if not, get a seagate hd. also get an nf4 board like the chanintech vnf4 ultra.

$650 shipped? So that's probably a $600 computer. Not shabby at all, and now I can understand why you went with the AGP route as opposed to PCIe.
Have you considered the ASUS A8V?

Also, I cannot recommend the power supply that comes with your case. I'll guarantee you that you'll endup with a headache when you wonder why your parts got fried or why your system crashes every 2 seconds. The only case/psu combo I can recommend is Antec.

Consider a Seagate/Western Digital drive, they're generally more reliable. However Maxtor as a company has changed - note their recent changes from a 3 year warantee to a 5 year warantee.

My recommendation to you is to downgrade your harddrive to 80GB, and get another stick of 512MB (2x512MB kit costs $80) - you'll notice a very big performance difference

Edit: And upgrade to a 6600GT. It's actually the same price and it performs better.

I forgot to mention that im trying to budget this computer to roughly $650. Items 1-6 are saved on my wish list at newegg. I plan on getting everything this week...Thanks in advance for all those that can help a newbie.

Link to wishlist?

If anything, please just get another power supply. That's the only part that looks like it'll cause problems.

I agree with what the guys above said.

6600GT instead of 9800Pro
1GB of corsair value RAM
Maybe a new Power Supply

Great work for a first-timer though. Looks like you did your homework.

Thanks for everyones help so far...the computer is nearly completed with the info you guys mentions...is there anything else that you guys would suggest? I will be changing my tower/psu and going with probably the Antec Sonata? I hope mid to great all around computer based on my budget.

Couple last minute questions...
With the Chaintech MoBo, is that a fairly new board that i can keep for a while like a couple of years because im not planing to OC or anything Hi-tech? Also just want to make sure that everything is compatible?

Wowwy!! I didn't know you could build such a nice computer for such little cash.
If possible, go for the Sonata II for the better included PSU.

Nothing I would change, but take a look at the Epox nForce4 Ultra board.

Just Ordered everything that i listed on my post except the tower and grand total $619. Thank you everyone for helping me out.
