So later on this week I will be building my first computer. I order on the 22nd (or whenever the price drops show). This is what I plan to have:

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R Motherboard
INTEL Q6600
OCZ DDR2 800 4GB (2x2GB)
MSI GeForce 8800GTX
LITE-ON DVD Burner SATA
ANTEC P180b *PURCHASED*
MAXTOR Basic ATA/100 300GB HD *PURCHASED*
ULTRA X-Finity 600W PSU *PURCHASED*
MICROSOFT Windows Vista Home Premium
ARTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler

So if y'all see anything wrong with this, or have recommendations for different parts please reply. I'm willing to spend around $50 more than what I have now. I want as much feedback as possible. Also share any tips or common mistakes when building a computer :) Thanks.

Looking good imo. Just the question everyone seems to be asking themselfs lately, lower clocked qaudcore, or higher clocked dualcore. PSU wouldn't have been my choice, imo you can't really buy a 600W PSU for 60$, but it will do I guess.

Be sure to get a 64 OS, like Vista 64, to take advantage of your RAM.

Regarding PSU, you do not really need 600 watt. I would get a lower rated, better quality PSU.

It sais purchased :p

And vista 32 will be able to adress 3.5gb, it has to reserve 512mb for the pci bus and stuff like that. So the 64x version is recommended. There have been issues with drivers, but a lot of them are being fixed or allready have been. I myself don't have any problems with Vista Ultimate 64x

1. How far do you plan to overclock your Q6600? Or are you at all?
2. You might wanna consider going with EVGA 8800 GTX just for the step-up program, a new card is expected from nvidia in Q3 or early Q4 of 2007. Well worth it imo.
3. You should save money and find an OEM version of 64 bit Vista.

my power supply....i got that for free AR and ultra isnt a horrible brand afaik. i do not plan on overlocking at all. if i do, it will probably just be a slight bump to 2.6ghz or something. sinn, can you tell me a little more about the step-up program? i'm going to look on evga's site now, but it'd be nice if i could get the basic idea of it from another member here. and as for 64-bit...isn't the compatibility for it completely f***ed? i had the impression that MANY drivers or apps will not work on 64-bit. please correct me if i'm wrong -_-
