I'm getting a new computer this Christmas. Going to be building my first computer. Here is my future setup.

Purchasing
------------------------
Case:.......................Antec TX1050B (comes with SP-500)
Motherboard:............DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra-D
Processor:...............AMD 3200+ Venice
Heatsink/Fan:..........Stock HSF (XP-90 with 92mm panaflo later on)
Ram:........................OCZ Platinum Rev. 2 (2x512mb)
Video Card:..............ATI RADEON X800 XL PCI-E 256MB OR eVGA 7800GT PCI-E (if money will allow)
Power Supply:..........Antec SP-500 (Smart Power 2.0) 500W
Fans........................5 Panaflos

Already Have
--------------------
DVD Burner...............LG GSA-4160B
Hard Drives:.............250GB Western Digital PATA
...............................40GB Western Digital PATA

1. Will my Smart Power 2.0 500W be able to handle all of my components if I went the 7800GT route? I will probably be adding a 250GB SATA drive later on as well.

2. Will the 3200+ Venice work "right out of the box" or will it need a BIOS update?

3. How does the overall setup of my computer look? Are there anything you guys see that needs to change? Incompatibilites? Better hardware?

Any ideas or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

1) Yes it will.
2) Yes.
3) I'm assuming you are overclocking since you are getting a DFI, then get a 3000+.

Thanks for the quick reply.

For #2. Do you mean it needs a BIOS update or doesn't need a BIOS update?

Yes I will be overclocking later on. I thought the 3200+ are better to overclock with because of the 10x Multiplier?

Thanks for the reply.

it shouldnt need it. depends on manufacture date of board.

as for mb, i strongly suggest another mb for a first time builder. the DFI has almost no documentatino and is jsut a b1tch t work with if something goes wrong. go msi/asus or even that value but great ocer epox board.

No you won't need a bios update 🙂 well in most cases the 3000+/3200+ top off at the same range...but if you don't mind paying extra then go for the 3200+.

Rig in sig = first build, I had 0 problems 🙂, was a flawless build.

Thanks for all the replies.

I wanted to go for an easier board...but I want to get the extra juice from my system with the DFI.

That's good to hear! I've seen soo many people struggle to get their DFI board going...I was going to lose hope.

Ya I've been to DFI Street for a while now. I've read up on a lot of things.

mOeeOm: Do you have any particular tips or advice to give me for my first build?

I say go with the 7800GT and free eVGA SLI motherboard. It's an excellent overclocker that performs about equal to the Lanparty.

I've heard that it has a lot of memory and heatsink issues so i strayed away from it. I'm hoping to get a 7800GT this Christmas. How much will the price of 7800GT drop to in the Christmas season? Any clue? Because if it drops to prices to around $340USD ($400 CAD)...I'll pick one up for sure.

Make sure everthing is compatible, OCZ memory, XP-90 for heatink(assumign ur buying a new heatsink and not stock), do a BIOS update, get the main one from the site and also update all drivers from the main site and you should be good 🙂.
