Hi,

This will be my first time building a computer...kinda excited.

What do you think of my build? I borrowed most of it from other people on these forums, and some of them suggested some of these for others, so I'm just trying to ask here for any suggestions on the balance between $ and performance or any thing I'm missing.

Intel Core 2 Duo e6400 - $222.00

Gigabyte 965 DS3 - $122.99

PSU XCLIO 500Watts - $52.00

eVGA 320 MB GeForce 8800 GTS - $259.99 after rebate

Seagate 320 7200 RPM -$ 95.00

Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case - $50.00

Samsung 18x DVD+R/RW 8x - 29.00

Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - About 30-40 i think.

2 GB of Ram?
Looking for a cheap good ram..any suggestions?

All of this after shipping comes out to 918.00 or there abouts. I wish I could reduce the price because I am on budget - trying to keep it at around 1000 (I know, kind of hard when you're looking for a decent gaming system).

I do want to overclock...hope these specs are good for it.

1. Should I change the intel to a e4300 or e6300? or any cheaper brand of harddrive..?
2. Will I need any additional equipment to put this thing together besides screwdrivers?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, been very interested in building. Thank you.

AMD's native quad core CPUs are going drive the price of current CPUs into the ground (Core2 included) over the summer so I would definitely opt for the e4300 now and pick up a quad core CPU in the summer or fall.

Other than that the Centurion is a bit low rent for a system like that. The Lian Li PC-05 is currently on sale and is a great case (excellent cooling, soft mounts for the fans and hard drives, and solid AL construction).

The Xcilo is probably OK but something like the 430 watt Seasonic S12 would be a much better choice.

Don't cheap out on PSU quality>watts and in this respect quality usually goes up with price.

If you want to overclock don't get cheap ram. Plan on spending at least $200 for 2gig and more if your budget allows

Also, you may want to look around at some other cases that one has suspect cooling

Your HD is the enterprise edition I think get the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16822148140 instead (I may have Seagate and WD confused but one of them has some setting enabled by default in the enterprise edition that you want off for normal use)

You probably won't need anything else when installing the system as most cases have all the screws you need. I assume that your cpu cooler comes with thermal paste but if not AS5 is like $5 on newegg. Don't forget to buy an operating system lol and have fun

Edit: Oh yea I like you choice of CPU- prices will go down later this year but I think you would be better off buying it now. If you are just gaming a quad core won't benefit you much and the price drop on the 6400 won't be large enough to warrant buying a 4200 now
