I basically want to future proof this computer for the next 3-4 years. I have a 1.4k budget and this will be used mostly for gaming.

So far this is what i got

Mobo: [S=Gigabyte P35C DS3r]https://http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128048[/L]

Ram: Corsair XMS2 2GB(2x1GB)

PSU: [S=Antec True Pro Trio 650W]https://http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817371001[/L]

Case: Antec P180B Black

Video: EVGA 8800gts 640mb

HD: Seagate Barracuda 320GB 7200RPM

CD Drive: Sony 16x DVD 48x CD

Processor? If its 3-4 years, might as well get a quad core now unless you plan to upgrade the processor in a year or two. It will cost you about $70 more right now to go to quad core from dual core.
I guess you have the P35C for the DDR3 but who knows what will be out in a couple years. It will take about a year for DDR3 prices to come down and DDR3 to be the standard memory. You could just go with the regular DSR3.
You have a monitor to go with this setup?

Having a PSU-fan blowing up (or down) is kinda a bad idea in a 180 antec case (or so I found out). There's simply not enough space to put the exhaust air.

Originally i planned to go with the e6850 but a lot of people have told me to go quad, i thought the quad wasn't good for gaming or is that not true anymore? As for the monitor i'm trying to decide between the samsung 206bw and the LG L204WT right now im leaning towards the LG

PSU: Corsair HX 520W. It's modular, too, so it'll do well in that crazy upside down case of yours.

Starting to sound like my build. Haven't built it quite yet... July 22nd can't come soon enough. Already have the P182B and I love it.

And I'm pretty certain the PSU's with 120mm top fans blow INTO the PSU and out the back and not the other way around.

Could back off on the PSU to the 520, but I guess you want to "future-proof", just in case you throw more crap in there. I did the same, going for a 650W Seasonic s12+. But I'm also wanting to push a tv tuner card and likely more harddrives in the future.

What kind of monitor are using?

why not build for less $$$ now, put the saved $$ in ing and put a bit in every now and then, and then let the build evolve to what it is needed at the time? 3-4yrs is a long time in computers and by that time i am sure even the current 8800gtx cards won't play the current games of then. trying to future proof is a crazy idea anymore. now you future proof for a year maybe...

personally i would get one of the cheaper dual cores for the time being, actually the only portion i would really spend any money in is in the gpu dept and psu dept, then get a decent m/b.
