First Time Build - Will these parts work?

Hi, Im new here, and was just wondering if anyone knew for any reason why these parts wouldnt work together.

Abit AA8XE 925XE Mobo
Intel P4 LGA 775 3.2 CPU
(2)Maxtor 120 GB SATA HardDrives
(2)240-Pin 512MB DDR2 PC2-4200 sticks of RAM
IDE dvd burner
IDE cdrw burner
floppy disk drive

My main question is if that this PS will work with my mobo : POWMAX Demon 480W Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=17-163-017&depa=0

I read that the 925XE chipsets(and Intel's other newer chipsets) need a 24 pin power connector and I havent been able to find if this PS has a 24 pin connector.

Also, will I need SATA power adapters for my hard drives?

Nice system dont skimp on the PSU. Spend a little more if your gonna spend the $$ to get that setup. Antec, Fortron, OCZ, Enermax, PCPower&Cooling. 😉

Anything by Powmax or other generics is to be avoided.

You're also missing a video card.

And of course the obligatory "Why do you want a 925XE/LGA 775 at all" comment. Getting an A64 will mean you don't have to use expensive DDR2 memory that, frankly, isn't worth it. You'll also see faster speeds in most everything, especially games. [[Edit: If the system is, in fact, going to be used in one of those rare applications where a Prescott, specifically, an LGA 775 Prescott (as opposed to a Socket 478) is the best choice or bang-for-the-buck, do yourself a favor and get an 875 or 915 motherboard, something using regular DDR, at least.]]

I know im missing a vid card, im still deciding which one to get, and also the reason I dont have an amd system is for the simple fact that im absolutely clueless when it comes to them

Edit : anyone know of a good amd mobo w/pci express and a cpu to go with it?

If you're going higher-end gaming, the 6800 GT wins no contest. Best bang for $400. If you need to spend less, consider a 6600 GT or vanilla 6800 (especially the latter if you have a CompUSA nearby and can manage to pick one up while the deal on them for $200 is still going).

I just checked that motherboard out too. That's quite expensive, at $245. The RAM also kills a budget, at around $130 a stick for a Corsair 512MB DDR2-533 CL4 module. Add in the $220 proc and you're spending $725 just on this. On the A64 platform, this could go quite far, moreso than with what you saw with the 925XE. 2x512MB DDR 400 is about $150, a good S939 NF3 Ultra mobo, around $100-130, and that leaves you with around $450 for a processor. The Winchester 3500+, which will simply kill a 3.2 Prescott, is around $280 OEM. Add a good HSF (~$50), OC the chip, and you'll run circles around even higher-end Intel stuff with a bit of cash left to burn.

[[EDIT: Just saw that you want PCIe. NF4 stuff is trickling out now, so if you MUST be an early adopter of PCIe, then try to find one of those, though the price on boards will be killer at this point--and this is just for the privilege to be a beta tester of sorts. It would be wise, however, to at least wait for the technology to mature, though you'd be even better off if you waited for graphics cards to start showing a much more noticeable performance increase on the PCIe interface.]]

People around here seem to report lots of issues with MSI's motherboards, so maybe consider the Epox board (it's a tad cheaper too).

Well, I just ordered a 6800 Ultra, and will be ordering my other parts within the week, once again, thanks for the help
