first time attempting RAID 1 array

with two maxtor 60 gb IDE hard drives.

so far... I have a single 60 gb HD, and am planning on getting another one and a dual channel RAID card for an additional $150. But before I take the plunge, does anyone here have experience with this setup? How much of an improvement in access time is there? Is it worth the money? Any tricks to setting it up and stuff? I'm mainly doing this for safety issues (don't want another crash )

Your read speeds should increase, but your write speed will probably decrease.

I use to use RAID 0+1 but decided to stay with RAID0 because of the performance hit and I Ghost my Drives for back-up. If a Virus gets in RAID 1 it still is passed on to both Drives. Set-up is pretty much 1 no Brainer as it just duplicates your current Drive.
