First test of the [Much Delayed] 250MPH, 1001HP Bugatti Veyron

"The Veyron exceeds all expectations" added the engineer. The engine produces 3000 hp but it takes 1000 hp to cool it, another 1000 hp get lost by heat and gas emissions and the remaining 1001 bhp are available at the wheels.

WTF???:Q

Yeah I read that too.

To be honest, that sounds kinda pathetic. You can get a twin turbo Viper engine to make that much power and it wouldn't have the problems that they had developing the drivetrain for this car. I'm sure they could've come up with something better than that. It just seems like a waste to me, when they could've achieved the same results without all the hassle. But hey, whatever, it'd be awesome to own one of those, and with your foot planted it doesn't matter how it achieves the power/speed.

yea no kidding. 250mph..but its kinda ugly and bleh. for people who are just trying to buy every car in existence.

Not impressed about the 3000HP quote. That 1/3rd lost to heat (should be much more) happens to all combustion engines. It also shouldn't take 1/3rd of the power to cool it.
