Hello. Last days i bought my new Gigabyte Gtx 980 Ti reference. I was playing few days Witcher 3 without single crash. But today i encountered my first TDR crash just after starting a game.
Game just freeze, screen goes black and then pop up:"nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered".
I still can give back card to shop and take new one. I have 14 days for that. So what to do now? Is my card unstable on reference clocks then?
I dont OC card. All is stock reference clocks. Drivers are 353.06 WHQL. Today just first time i get TDR crash on my card on Witcher 3.
When i started game . Then i choose load game, and when game loaded and screen apeared then it crash with TDR. It crashed just after 2 second after i loaded a game from menu.
(ie when the card was downclocked load and sipping power and then going back into the game)

And i dont know what to do.

Try setting the power management mode in NV Control panel 3D settings from Adaptive to Prefer Maximum Performance. I have read that it may help with that error.

3D Settings

Manage 3D settings

Power Management Mode

Do you run MSI Afterburner or EVGA Precision?

This is very important. I had major instability issues with The Witcher 3 on my GTX 970 when running these applications. I was only using them for monitoring and not overclocking yet it still crashed often. After closing them I had no more issues. I was able to use Gigabyte's OC Guru without issues.

a post for a random crash after 5 days of playing a game? Am I missing something here? Don't worry about it bro....games crash. reboot and keep playing. If you crash 3 times in an hr then you might have something wrong

I crash alot more than that and I don't have the slightest inkling it would be my cards, lmao.

Also if you have a web browser open in the background it can cause crashes especially if a flash video randomly starts playing.

The Witcher itself has crashed a lot for me on both my old 680 and new ti, however, they were never the nasty ole TDR errors.

Op, if you get another driver has stopped responding, take that card back.

Ok listen. I dont have any crash while gaming. Only ( Very often maybe 1 of 30 times ) when i alt + tab from Witcher3 to windows and then when i back again to game ( ALT + TAB ) my driver just crashing. On right corner i can see a msg"353.06 stopped responding and has successfully recovered".
Is this a driver issue or my card?

Driver/Game. Many games don't like that. Just don't do it and enjoy your card.

But somebody told me that:""I think everyone is certain, including Nvidia now, that here is an issue with the voltage/power control.

This is why turning of the frame limiter and setting control panel to maximum performance has alleviated things for me. It would only crash after a transition (from loading to the game or menu to the game) because the card was going from about 3% power draw to 90-100% and I think occasionally the voltage hadn't increased quick enough , therefore causing a crash.

With the control panel setting at maximum performance the power draw never goes below 40% and the core doesn't go below 1190mhz even in the menus so there is less of a jump in power and voltage when transition between the game world and menus."

Its something with voltage jump and power fluctuation or something? But nothing wrong with card itself? Its a driver or card problem then?

You can return yet another card if you really want to, I am just telling you that games crashing from doing an ALT+TAB is nothing new, and does not mean you have a bad card.

But you mean crashing display driver or simple crash?

Display driver. If you are getting blue screens, the problem can be just about anything in your computer, depending on what the code is.

But try the newer driver that litwicki22 linked.
