Let the "can't possibly live up to the preview hype" begin.

"Warner Bros. Pictures' THE DARK KNIGHT is not only the best film I have seen this year, but quite possibly the best superhero movie ever made."

"Dark, grim, haunting and inventive, Dark Knight is nothing short of brilliant, representing Chris Nolan's most accomplished and mature work to date and the best and scariest comic-hero adaptation you're likely to see this summer, perhaps the whole year"

"Martin Scorsese's The Departed. Michael Mann's Heat. Brian de Palma's The Untouchables. And now, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight can join the ranks as one of the best crime dramas in modern movie history."

"The haunting and visionary Dark Knight soars on the wings of untamed imagination"

and now for the negative review:

"The film is quite special but where some films can weather extraneous or padded scenes, The Dark Knight has some distracting bloat to it which keeps it out of masterpiece territory."

What??? NOT A MASTERPIECE? LYNCH HIM!!

*marked for home*

It's been so long since a good action movie has been out.

The only "bloat" I saw was the Bruce/Rachel interaction, but that was baggage left over from the first movie.

The film kicks serious ass and Ledger's Joker performance will probably go down as the best Batman or superhero movie villain on film to date.

I'd rather not watch that and wait for the movie. It's bad enough that the trailers these days give away the whole movie.

Best superhero movie villain would be saying something. Best Batman villian, not so much. While the Joker's portrayal in the first Batman wasn't criminal, I think everyone agrees that it did leave a lot to be desired. We won't even talk about the other villains.

Though, I think you are probably going to be right on both accounts. The Joker in this film has a much deeper and darker profile than the big budget whimsical villains that Hollywood spoon feeds to viewers. While I do not mind villains who use comic book one-liners which are true to their roots, I crave a villain who actually looks and acts like someone who is crazy enough to strike fear into a city.

As if I hadn't already seen too much of the movie from commercials. I'll wait until I actually see the film.

Wow, talk about a scene that grabs your balls from the very beginning. You're not going to be zoning out in this movie.

this really is OFN by several months (end of last year) but the fact that we're only days away from the pure awesomeness that is bound to be makes it forgivable (might as well make this the official The Dark Knight thread or something :p)
