Hey all,

The setup:

Abit NF7-S
512MB CorsairXMS PC3200 C2
1700+ (DLT3C...week 0310 <-- week 31?). Stock voltage = 1.5V
Tornado 11 HSF
~~~~
Running @:
10 x 210 ( 2-2-2-5 @ 2.7V -Up .1 V from stock) = 2.1GHZ
This is running @ stock 1.5V and after about 8 hrs of 100% cpu usage its 39C (diode under CPU, and abit over-reports temps anyways)
Hits a wall @ 10.5 x 210 however. Can't do 2.2 Ghz with 1.525V or 1.55V...should i add more?
Thanks all :)
yeah... those things are good up to around 1.8 to 1.85... well that's what a lot of people are comfortable with....
No, dont go above 1.75 unless you have some good cooling
I use 1.8-1.9V but my temps are usually below 20C (superb air cooling) :)
you should be able to do the 2.2gig dance @1.6v and 2.3gig@ 1.675v or so, maybe. If you want higher, you will no doubt really have to crank the voltage up much higher.
0310 should be able to do 2200 mhz without a sweat. i dont think 1.7V will be a problem, remember, abit undervolts
Well the system crashed sometime last night after about 8 hrs. of stable usage..
I think maybe i'm reaching the limits of my Corsair C2 (it's revision 1.1, however).
So:
-I put the ram back to 200 mhz for NOW
-Increased multiplier to 11
-Speed is now 2.2 Ghz @ 1.6V
-Temperature does not go over 42C (This was with the heat on high in my room and after about 6 hrs. of 100% cpu usage)
Usually the temp hovers around 39C
Testing stability & will report either if it crashes...or if it suceeds all day :)
Thanks all!
-I'm now using Prime95 to test stability. I brought the system all the way back to 10x200 (2-2-2-5) and am moving up slowly now.
-I had to up the ram voltage to 2.7V(2.731 Full load Actual) b/c it would not do the fast 2-2-2-5 settings properly (the ram torture test in prime would fail).
-I am now running the cpu @ 1.55V ( 1.504 Actual Full Load)
-Prime95 Torture test on Blend (tests fpu/l2 cache, max heat/powr consumption, and ram alternatively)...
If prime95 fails at this I'm going to test just the small fpu, then the large one..if those pass i know my ram is the factor.
Let's hope for the best!
You are NOT running at 20c on air...You must be forgetting that most of us here have been overclocking for quite a while and know that it is almost impossible to to run 20c on air..UNLESS your have your pc at your window in the middle of winter, or something like that.
Now for Overkiller..You will be fine running 1.75 -1.8. Bump your mem v to 2.9. I run this work system (xp1700) at 1.81v on air and am around 62c @ 2.4Ghz. Stable for a few months now 24/7. Dont sweat bumping your voltage.
Why are you runnign your FSB so high? I would increase the multiplier before I get the FSB that high.
LOL, you brave man you!!, I'am just too chicken I guess. I did set mine @1.825v once and was actually able to boot into Windows and mess around for about 45sec at 2.5gig on air before locking-up. I was very surprised, and frightend by the high 55+ temps though.
i've only hit 20c once. last night. i don't run the heat downstairs at night until 530am, when i let it pump to 70F so i dont bring the kids down to a freezing room to get ready for school. so last night, it musta dropped to about 60ish down there, and, according to MBM5, my idle hit 20c.
now, i dont run anything fancy. a simple 1700+ at 166x13.5 @1.7v with a sk7/ys tech combo and a couple of antec case fans in a case that sits under a desk with no ventilation.
but i could see how someone that likes a cold room, with something better than an sk7/ys tech combo could idle at 20c. someone with a loud delta fan screaming at a slk 900a with 4 case fans, a 1.5v chip, and one hella-cold room.
yes that is very true....
but unless you've actually measured the temperature directly above the core, the temp that is read by the hardware monitor isn't accurate...
20C's on air seems pushin' it unless you're running like 1.3 volts and at speeds below stock which you aren't... i'm sure if you took a temp probe and put it on the core, you'd find that your temp was higher than 20C's
i was pushing 1.85 volts on my 1700+ on my 8rda+ a while back and it had no problems with a slk800a and 80 mm smart fan
the temps were in the low to mid 50's and that was fine by me...
lol, not really:) my temp as i type this is 40c :p for extreme o/c people go even higher, 1.95v etc, with extreme cooling. cpu's kinda old, so not like those newer ones that go 2.6 on air without extreme cooling. dlt3c like his, not jixhb or whatever they have now
overclockers.com forums has a ton on it:) an informative thread on o/c http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=1675558dbf067b839cd21e6e14cca039&threadid=187887&highlight=1800
1.85v is nothing:)
