Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I highly recommend you watch the Batman marathon current;y on TBS (aka: the Station Of Championds.) kjsf rkjhwekjhwe

IBM drives in an Server Is a bad idea--they are only rated at 8 hours a day working time, anymore than that and your asking for drive failure

Hess.

Do you have a link to that information on the IBM hard drives? I am not saying you are wrong I just would like to read about it.

Also I agree with Lint watch batman!

Maybe a dumb question but what is watching Batman going to do for me?

amdskip: Thanks for the link.

Hessakia: What would be a better hard drive choice?
local computer solutions company liked the IBM's

What is a good choice for a P3 mother board.

If you watch batman you intelligence will grow ten fold. Either that or it will take your mind off of the server and you won't have any more questions.

The Batman episodes contain secret instructions on how to build a 75 T-flop supercomputer from exactly the components you specified. To decode the instructions you will need .... gak ... I've been shot ................................

Check on Monday, March 11, 2002 - Sixth Ed.

its all there HardOCP

An Important thing to remember to do when installing the OS is to Install
the Raid drivers first.

Press F6 when the Setup is detecting hardware screen comes on.

Also, do yourself a favor and Do Not install that modem until after the OS is on the system.
You will be glad you did.

P.S. You really can't call it a Server with Win2k Pro. Its a Workstation.

Thank you LiLith tech.amdskip and Hessakia for the info.

RemyCanad you mean by watching Batman I'll learn more
than if I post my computer questions here? Probably, if I
rely on people like Lint21 and you. 😀

You will now never know what you could of learned!

Also everything looked good to me. (Win2k is questionable) So why not watch Batman? Do you remeber the computer he had... sweeet...

Remy: I did watch Batman off and on waiting for replies to this post,
and checking hot deals forum. I ordered parts friday from Newegg
Maybe I should have posted and then ordered parts. Oh well there is
always next time.

Why is Win 2K questionable? What would you suggest.

Anyone on a good stable P3 mother board ???

Re: 2x P3 vs 1 x P4?

Depends on what your apps use. Remember, 2 x 1.2 GHz does not 1 x 2.4 GHz make. It's a question of whether your apps actually support SMP (Serial multi processing), or not.

If not, then the P4 is the better way to go, as you'd just be wasting your time. Apps need to be able to make use of the DP-ness of your machine, otherwise you're wasting time & money.

Just as a small reminder, in case it's necessary.

Oh - and on the subject of HT (Hyperthreading) - Win2K doesn't fare too well with it. Use XP if you're going to be doing Hyperthreading - W2K isn't really great at it.

I believe SMP stands for Symmetric Multiprocessing, not Serial multi processing as shathal mentioned before hand.

Hess.

I should have said win2k pro as oposed to win2k server is questionable.

Also even if we disagree with you, you can always prove us wrong! That's what batman would of said. 🙂
