I have a desk top setup. I have the Ethernet cable form my computer into my modem and receive my internet connection via cable connection [ Comcast ]. Is my computer properly setup to receive WiFi via a router now?

I am confused.......

From the information you have given, no. You need a wireless adapter to connect to a wireless router. Oh, and you'll need a wireless router, too.

I'm guessing that you've left out some very useful information.

I have many years playing with and assembling my own computers but I have no experience with networks, routers and wireless adapters. Never had a need for it until now.

Buy a router. It will also enhance your security by blocking all unsolicited inbound traffic.

What was the problem in getting a wireless router to work?
Your "PC as a wireless hub" would be more problematic than simply using a wireless router.

I really don't know why. Spent time on the phone with Cisco tech. but couldn't get it working, I think it had something to do with using USB with my modem.

From this I'm assuming based on your OP;
you have a desktop computer
it connect to your cable modem via ethernet

Thus unless you have a wireless card also installed your desktop is NOT ready to receive WiFi

Then you posted:

Sounds like you were trying to connect the router to the modem with a USB cable.......... why?

If you have [cable modem]>----------------<[desktop] working with an ethernet cable.
Then you should have connected like this;
[modem]>------------<[new router]>---------------<[desktop]
with modem connected to the WAN or internet port on router with an ethernet cable
and the desktop connected to the LAN (1 of the 4) with an ethernet cable.

Power every thing off:
power the modem on first, wait until lights stabilize
power on the router, wait until the lights stabilize
power on the PC, and when booted you should be online.

When you get a laptop, then you can setup wireless. Until then you might want to disable wireless in the settings to keep the leaches off.
