Shame they are not releasing both at the same time. Hopefully they are taking the extra time to optimize it rather than shorting us (the PS3 owners) on graphics like RockStar did with GTA4 (compared to the 360 version).

It's nice that they got the DLC going, but I'm a little surprised they're not doing a simultaneous release on both platforms. That's not a very good trend for Sony this far into the game...

Also, they are working on new instruments, but say that the changes will be cosmetic as opposed to functional (basically, old instruments will work in 2)

I would pay up to $40 to get all of the songs (non-DLC) from Rock Band into Rock Band 2 to have one giant compilation.

But also, this definitely explains why there's no A-grade DLC for Rock Band - the stuff they're releasing is good, but it's rarely standalone disc worthy.

Woot! Compatible instruments and transferrable DLC. That's pretty much all they had to do to convince me to buy RB2. Although having all the RB1 songs available in RB 2 would be awesome. Maybe they'll come out with a way of verifying ownership of RB1 that unlocks the tracks in RB2. I'd even be content if they had you insert the RB1 disc after loading RB2 for a minute just to verify you own it.

I know seriously! Finally a game company that gets it right. You pay for the music, it should work on all of the games. That being said, after reading this I am very excited for RB 2. I hope it blows GH 4 out of the water.

Like really, those two things and online world tour are basically all they can do to the game to make it perfect. There's not much else I can even imagine that they could add that would make it a better game or make other games(*cough* GH4) catch up to the perfection they've made with the Rock Band franchise. Make your own songs and custom guitars might be cute for the first 5 minutes, but when you have a room full of people who want to rock the eff out to some cool music, the meat and potatoes of the game is ALL you need.

I was KINDA hoping they'd re-do the drums to add a couple extra pads and still keep functionality with RB1, but I'm excited nonetheless. I'll just be able to buy the disc and be happy! It seems like with every GH release, the focus is more on you buying the instrument bundle rather than the game. Though I'm open to see what kind of cosmetic changes the instruments go through. Maybe if the drums turn wireless I might pick up a new drum set. Excited to see it coming out soon too!

Rumors abound.

Apparently RB1 tracks might be *Free* DLC for RB2. Link If this is true that would be really awesome. While they're at it I'd like to see the ability to transfer my current characters to RB2 as well.

I saw this over at penny arcade earlier, apparently RB2 won't include the ability to create your own songs. link Not really a big loss in my book, since I'm much too lazy to do more than play around with creating songs. Although it might have been cool to be able to download other people's custom songs.

I'd like to be able to just download RB1 songs in one pack, and for minimal cost if I already own RB1... just so I wouldnt need to keep the disc around.

Rumor has it (and by rumor, I mean Nate Ahern at IGN made a post about it) - is that the RB1 tracks will not only be DLC for RB2 - they will be free to download if you own the game.

Yeah I missed that rather important word. Free!

IMO, that's the absolute best way to do it.

This actually turned out to be false info, another editor at IGN posted on their insider boards that it was a mistake and that the editor that made the original comment hasn't even seen the game yet.

"Nate goofed in writing that. He hopes that is allowed. Nothing about this has been announced and Nate's never even seen RB2. Sorry, guys."

This is the thread if you have Insider:

This was also mentioned in a gamespot article about RB2, but was edited out of the article a few hours later. The gamespot article has a lot of good info in it though, including confirmation for online BWT, a new solo tour mode, and 10 confirmed tracks.

"Ace of Spades" -- Motörhead
"Everlong" -- Foo Fighters
"Pinball Wizard" -- The Who
"Panic Attack" -- Dream Theater
"Any Way You Want It" -- Journey
"Chop Suey" -- System of a Down
"Kids in America" -- The Muffs
"Give It Away" -- Red Hot Chili Peppers
"Hello There" -- Cheap Trick
"Pump It Up" -- Elvis Costello

With wireless guitars and that drum set I might actually consider buying the new instruments and ditching the old ones. If I can DLC the RB1 content then I could just sell RB1 to a friend for cheap and get this.

Before anyone gets their hopes too high of finding this in a $170 special edition:

The limited edition Ion drum kit will be sold separately for true aficionados, and it will convert to a real electronic set.

That said, Rock Band has seen more playtime from me than any other game in the last year. If they offered ridiculously high-quality peripherals for $100-150 a pop, I'd be willing to consider it.

Yeah, this drum set will probably be 300-350 on it's own.

You should also note that the article states that the drum kit that will come with RB2 will have only 4 pads, but the ability to add on three extra, just like the high-end kit. Also, the article says that while the pads will just be duplicate functions in RB2, they could be used as separate pads in future games.

I hope Harmonix MTV releases a RB2 + Drum Kit bundle. I might be interested in buying a new set of drums. Or maybe even that high-end set since the double as a electronic drum set.

I don't know that I'd call it a high end set. And I'd definitely purchase it as an electronic drum set, have played with the drums at my cousins house all the time. It's fun to play, just hard to truly get your hands and feet independent.

That having been said - they're missing the high-hat pedal. Unless it comes with one, I don't see how you'd truly play it as a "real" drum set. (I've never played an electric set, but you definitely need that second pedal)

I meant high-end for fake plastic instruments. Obviously it's not meant to replace a real drum set.

I've read you can add-on to it though. By replacing it with a drum brain, you'd probably get the option for more pads and pedals.
