Question is. Do I buy now/tomorrow. Or are superclocked versions going to be coming out shortly.

Also, what are the ATI brands. Normally I only buy eVGA, but obviously I can't. Is Sapphire still the best?

You also have the usual MSI and Asus. XFX for warranty. I've also had good luck with powercolor.

XFX usually owns for warranties. Hold off for now, see what shows up.

considering the 6870 could only go from 900/4200 to 954/4344 in the guru3d review I would not expect any overclocked 6870 cards.

Toyata, you keep repeating that value but haven't reported the other OC value which was catalyst limited. That is one sample, I really think it is silly to make a broad generalization on one review.

I said the card from the guru3d review and that is all we have to go by at the moment. I read the review and correct me if I am wrong but the ccc was not the limitation.

There is already another link in this thread where the OC went up to 985. One review shouldn't be enough to decide if the card has overclocking potential.

I guess I missed that link. fact is though if guru3d only got 954/4300 out of the card then bet your rear that many consumers will get overclocking duds too.

I thought you had seen the chinese review.

But yea, with only 2 cards, either one could be an outlier so we really have no clue at this point. Good news is, we should have a clue real soon.

Cant say I don't blame you, seems like a wise decision.

I seriously contemplated holding out for the 6970. By December, I'll have another $100+ in rewards and that means I could probably land one for $200 or so out-of-pocket. But, I play at 1920 x 1200 and I don't know that I'd see much benefit going to a 6970 with my current rig.

While that isn't even close to being something you can conclude (if one card is a poor overclocker then "many" will be), the important thing is to wait for reviews to show what overclocking does to increase performance. Not all cards see a linear increase in performance by overclocking the GPU.

In the same boat. My rig is exactly the same as yours except i use a seasonic 550w psu. Wonder if i should jump on a 6870.

please use some common sense and look closer at what I am saying. if a well known review site cant even get but 6% out a card and thousands of people are buying the same card then yes MANY of those will likely overclock no better either. yes i know we should wait for more reviews but I am only going on the info that is available at the moment.
