Crossfire scaling, crossfire looks improved as the 6870 is weaker than a 5870 in BFBC2, but performs faster in comparison in crossfire.

As always this is also comparing launch drivers to the mature drivers of the Radeon 5 series and NV 4 series.

If Cayman is indeed 170% Barts, it will be a monster.

It seems to more or less be a '5865' I guess.

I wouldn't say overclocking is bad with a data sample of one, but that's not exactly encouraging results. I expected more, with a cooler running, smaller GPU and 5850's and 5870's gitting 1GHz with a voltage bump I would have thought this GPU would get 1GHz+. I'll wait for more reviews I guess, but less than impressive in that respect so far.

Anyway, decent card for the money, but I wouldn't call it a GTX460 slayer at $250 either.

Holy cow! Thats 93% scaling right there.

EDIT: $378 6850 crossfire is as fast as a $599 5970.

The 6850 seems to have the 460 very firmly in its pocket.

Looks a bit up and down. Im sure some driver updates should fix that. Now I just need to decide which card to get.

Look at Dirt 2 and Far Cry 2 scaling...AMD usually is poor in FC2.

Now I want to see the 6970 CF and 6990 results :awe:

And all this from a 255mm2 chip, they really don't have do much to with cayman to make faster than a 480.

Another thing is the 6870/6850 are very consistent with their results. There wasn't a single game where the 460 was faster than the 6850 and the 470 faster than the 6870 unlike cypress. I would like to see minimum framrates also.

Those numbers are about what I had hoped for, roughly 5870 performance from the 6870 but at a lower price and lower power draw. Better crossfire scaling is the icing on the cake.

I'll be looking for a Sapphire Vapor-X version of the 6870 and probably go crossfire with it down the road when I get a 30" monitor.

I know right? This is why midrange-first launches always kill me. I'm always eager to know what the highest performance is first, and then I'll gladly work my way down the list. ;)

Oh yeah, they'll probably squeeze a little bit of extra performance out of them with more mature drivers.

Well, pricing is "out" in the UK. Hopefully they will adjust down.

GTX460 768MB = £120
GTX460 1GB = £145
HD6850 = £150
HD5830 = £160
HD6870 = £200
HD5850 = £215
