I went to the grocery store to get things for this week, and I was really excited becaues I was going to cook a roast lamb for the first time. I got about halfway home and I realized I forgot the damn dog food. So, I turned around and starting driving back to the grocery store. Let me give a little background information -- there's a main road from right before my house to all the main commercial areas. It is a two lane road, and the speed limit varies from between 35-45. Most people drive about 50, and I've passed Sheriff's Officers (I live in an unincorporated are) numerous times doing between 50-60. In fact, traffic on that road moves very smoothly, and I've rarely seen someone pulled over. There's never anyone running radar.
Well, I was in a big hurry so I was doing about 60. He passed me, and as I said before, this was nothing new. Normally they don't even flash their brake lights. I got stopped at an insurance checkpoint about two months ago and the Deputy told me flatout that he knows my car, and that he always sees me speeding. He was laughing while he said it and gave me my license.
Well, this Deputy pulled my ass over. 63 in a 30 he said. I said... 30? He said this is a construction zone (it was 9pm at night), and that he wasn't going to write a ticket with double fine, or even mark it as a 30. He gave me a 63 in a 40. He was very cool and I was polite. I usually never get tickets. The last few times I've been pulled over I just get a warning because I BS with the cops and admit guilt. Also, I didn't have my insurance card. I just got back in town from Colombia, and I was carrying a wallet with just my DL, Avianca Card, and one CC. I showed him my Insurance card that expired right before I left in my glovebox, and told him the up to date cards were at home. He didn't write me up for that. He said he figured people with late model cars had insurance.
I always speed. I will never stop. I've never been involved in an accident going faster than 25mph. I've only had one at fault accident in my adult life, and that was at my house because I didn't keep the e-brake on..
Anyway, I figure I will go to court and get driving school. It is only a 120 dollar fine. I'm only worried because I had to plead guilty about a year and a half ago to a 102 in a 70 on I-85 leaving Auburn. State Trooper got me. Incredibly cool guy as well. Last time I got a ticket in 03, the DA didn't want to give me driving school because of past tickets that were dismissed. I went to Court and the Judge got pissed at the DA and gave it to me anyway.
I've been about 5/6 for getting tickets thrown out or going to driving school. The only one that stuck was the 102 in the 70. I didn't contest that one because I'm not a fvcking idiot. Keep in mind I'm not talking about 6 tickets in the past few years. I'm talking about 7 years here. All speeding tickets but one (reckless driving when I was 16 because the officer said I squealed my tires).
I really don't care about going to driving school this time. I'm about to be married and I'm 24. I don't really see how this ticket can hurt my insurance. I pay about 120 a month
for full coverage on a 1 year old Benz. I just don't see it going up. Anyone have experience with getting busted by a ticket for an increase?
Do use a radar detector? If so, how do you talk your way out of so many tickets?
