first real snowfall here in Mtl, and wow, I have virtually no snow traction whatsoever!

I thought my tires sucked in the rain, and well they do, but traction on snow is virtually nonexistant!
Thankfully on the more travelled roads like highways and such the road was merely wet, but on the smaller roads where the snow hadn't yet melted, I was slipping and sliding all over the place!

ust getting out of my parking space i fought to keep my car from drifting to the other side of the road, and then my first left turn which I took no faster than prob 10km/h (6mph) I was understeering and nearly hit a parked car on the other side and caused some dude to honk at me because he thought I was stopping on the side and tried to get by me on my left.

I think I'm gonna go find an empty parking lot later on and practice skid control, I have a feeling I'm gonna need it this winter with these tires.. lol

That sucks! What kind of tires do you have? I have a Saturn that had Firestone Affinities, and they were horrible in the rain and snow after 35,000 miles... they were pretty good at first though.

Yup, defintely practice. I have some sucky tires on my new car... as soon as snow comes, I am going to go practice in a parking lot. Don't just try to drive in the parking lot, but put your car into a skid and see if you can get out of it. It may pay off to be very useful one day - it did for me.

I have Kelly Metric Radials. I think they have a traction rating of 'B'. I'd hate to see what a 'C' tire is like.

edit:

Then again the tires are years old and the guy who sold me the car doesn't remember when he last changed them :Q

I would but that's $$$. I just sunk $200 into getting my timing belt changed (CDN). Can't afford another $300 - $400 in tires, not now anyways.

If i were you and having that much trouble I'd seriouly think about getting some snow tires. The winter is only going to get worse. Thankfully MD doesn't get much snow because i would be worse off than you probably
